when would you ever......go to 100m and not be diving? Snorkeling is basically in the surface with some quick dives down but never to 100m. I just makes no sense.

Same reason cars can go 150+ mph. Being engineered to that standard tends to make traveling at legal speeds safer and more reliable in turn.

Also, you might drop your watch while snorkeling and need to come back for it later, maybe with Jim Cameron's help.

Yebba! Been looking at Pro Treks for a while. This is a very nice looking one with large, positive display, suunto-esque styling, and not too gaudy with lettering and such as Casio sometimes does.

Wish these value watches were around back when I got my Suunto Observer. I got a steal of a deal on a used titanium one for $200, but that's not as great as $80, and the Observer bands are garbage and the battery life is 1 year... just noticed the description says solar, so even better.

Picked up the same watch in a "SpecOps" edition with a negative display and black bezel for $180 back in 2015 which was good price at the time. Since then it's been on countless on/off the grid adventures, around the world, and for a while my daily office watch.

It's a great watch and would happily jump on this for $80 if I didn't already have one. It still runs perfectly although the black bezel shows a good number of scratches from bouldering, eating dirt, etc. I would describe this as the perfect "preppers" watch considering no battery changes needed, very durable construction, and all the critical data you need to navigate off the grid.

In hindsight, I would probably have gone with a positive display instead. The negative display is very tacticool and I get compliments, but it's not always easy to read. One big plus about this watch is if you have small wrist or hate giant watches like many of the Gshocks, you will like this watch. It's very minimalist and stays out of the way.

A smart band is my daily wear for body vitals and message alerts, but whenever going off the grid, the Protrek is still my watch of choice.
