If you love hard science fiction even a little, I cannot recommend this book (and series) highly enough. The scope and scale of Liu's storytelling is beyond anything I've experienced in decades of reading and I guarantee you've never read anything like this before

This entire series was incredible. I can't recommend them enough.
IMO the first book is the worst of the three. It starts off a little slow but towards the middle/end things change a lot. The second and third book are the greatest sci fi books I've ever read
yes

the book and series are excellent

highly recommended for scifi fans

you need to be willing to work with the author on the suspension of disbelief a bit

but the sheer scale and scope of imagination on display here is impressive

Echoing the comments here, this is one of the best hard-science fiction series out there. The scale is just epic

Thanks. I've been planning to read this. Can anyone compare this to writing by Asimov, Heinlein etc. Is it anywhere close?

I've generally been disappointed by modern sci-fi. Always been reminiscing about the big 3 and the others of that era.

The series is imaginative and the scale is immense. If you enjoy Asimov, you owe it to yourself to give these a try. The second book in the series, The Dark Forest, is the best sci-fi book I've read (in my subjective opinion). At the very least you will get the experience of reading sci-fi from a non-Western perspective. I will say that the writing style takes a few chapters to get used to due to the translation however.

Thank you so much. You seem well inforned and that is high recommendation. I'm going to purchase all three of these books.
I used to be the biggest sci fi nut and read almost everything published by these earlier authors. Asimov has always been my favorite. Never liked the new age sci fi by Gaman, Butler etc.

I'm very excited to start reading more sci fi again. I'll go through the triology and report back.

On a different note, do you have any other sci-fi recommendations? I figure in this pandemic, I can at least try to read more.

If you are into Scifi this is a no brainer. Top five author of science fiction I have come across. Well worth the read. It's sitting on my book shelf as I type this.
