how is this $300 better than the $99 'Hoverboards'?
These are more stable and capable of going 10 mph up to 13 miles. Runs on grass and rough roads.

Also, the Segway ninebot brand has been the safest and most reliable. I've got two Minis and they still work great after years of use. Battery still hold good charge.

They announced they're discontinuing these and focusing on scooters, didn't they? This might be the beginning of the closeout. I'd be worried about support, although at 400+ bucks you're not looking at a long term investment.

Yes they did. It may be a good price, and I can't speak for their customer service, but they did announce they are shutting some products down. https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/23/te...index.html

These are not directly related to Segway pt. Look like they are shutting the full size Segways that are $4,000+ with very limited market (and probably made in the US). The minis are made in China

Xiaomi, the Chinese cellphone manufacturer, acquired Segway years ago. In China, these Segways are called young people's first broken bone hehehehe. Make sure you wear protective gears when you're using one!

Get the refurbished mini pro for 300 and unlock the software for 70 bucks to go from 11mph to 15mph. Install larger tires for 60 more and get more stability and go up to 17.5mph. I have one. Haven't installed the wheels yet but 15mph is fast enough. I put on it about 1000 miles. Use it to run my dog 4 to 5 miles a day. Goes off road no problem. Grass, gravel etc. One of the best pieces of tech I've ever bought. Bought a second as backup in case they get discontinued.

Nearly 20 years ago, the Segway two-wheeled, self-balancing people transporter was unveiled on top of a mountain of hype. Now the innovative yet oft-ridiculed Segway PT is being quietly killed off by its parent company.

In a move that is, unfortunately, becoming a sign of the times, the sun is setting on yet another American-manufactured personal electric vehicle.

The Bedford, New Hampshire factory that currently produces the Segway PT will shut down on July 15.

Of the current workforce, 21 employees will be laid off immediately.

Another 12 employees will stay on temporarily to deal with warranty fulfillment and other matters related to previously completed Segway PT orders, according to a report from Fast Company.
