Does anyone know if the WD Black portable drive (game drive) in the same size contains an actual black drive or this drive? Trying to decide if the supposedly better black drive is worth the extra price.

Are these regular 2.5" HD's inside or modded with usb port? I'm swapping out the cd/dvd tray on a couple of my laptops with a bay to hold HD's ($6 on amazon) and this is the type of space I'd like to have. Use a fast SSD as boot drive and a big boy like this for backups....I could even see keeping it in case but USB 2.0 and 5TB do not go well together.

Yes all of the WDs 2.5" do as they are soldered. If you are talking about the external cable, it's standard.

Absolutely what I was looking for. I was hoping to open the case and place the drive in my system internally, but upon further examination, the USB 3 port is soldered in place of the esata connectors. I think to prevent this use. see less
