Most modern rechargeable batteries should be recycled for MANY reasons. Namely because of the horrible mining conditions used to obtain the heavy metals. But also because..... heavy metals.

They're happy to take them at Home Depot or Best Buy. I just put them in a pile with my CFL bulbs and take them all in at once.
Which part of the world are people looking for terrible quality and high prices?
Basically this.

They could make them better well constructed i'm sure it wouldnt be 20$/6 though. Like everything in the US, everyone wants high quality but for cheap.

For this price its a decent deal. Just don't expect them to last for more than a couple seasons.

Yeah, mine tend to get brittle from the sun

But at this price, you actually get nice light from these, compared to the Dollar Tree ones, for only a dollar and change more each

These are great throwaways. Every 2 seasons just trash and get new ones. Always find these at home depot end caps, at around 10 to 12 bucks

What exactly breaks down with these? The cells get clouded over? The batteries lose capacity? The circuitry fries in the extreme weather?

Are there more long-lasting ways to do this, e.g. path lights powered by buried wires hooked up to a larger solar panel with protected circuitry and batteries mounted elsewhere?

I got these last year thinking of spend more for something to last. Yes they are bigger and heavy duty, but here I am again needing to replace half of them. I think these things are essentially disposable no matter what you buy.
