Not bad. Or try this-Go to a genuine Indian grocery store if you live in a city. Or call them. Ask if they have saffron. Should be about the same price although the price fluctuates. They come in one ounce tins from Spain.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tra...of_saffron
Or alternatively: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saffron

TLDR; it is a spice that is typically quite expensive by weight since it is labor-intensive to harvest.

Real saffron is CRAZY expensive, so yes, this is a good price. There have been times in history when it traded about evenly with gold.

Of course, that can also be said of frankincense, and salt...

But yes, it is a very good price, if you need a lot of it. Coming from Costco I would also be pretty confident it is real saffron. A little goes a very long way though so make sure you actually need this much.

I did a bit of research, and although I always think Costco finds high quality at low prices, you can definitely do better than this on Amazon for nearly 5-star rated saffron.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078YXT7LS/ as an example.

I bought saffron a couple of years ago from Costco because I needed it for a recipe I made only once because it didn't turn out all that well. Not sure what to do with the rest of the jar, and would love to find some uses for it. What kind of foods do you use saffron in?

I wouldn't take chances to buy saffron as it would be very difficult to find out the genuine one in the market. That too, Amazon is now more prevalent for counterfeit products.

You can try Badam milk, (almond Indian drink) which needs saffron.

Mostly rice dishes like paella or pilaf. Some people use it in desserts.

Amazon reviews cannot be trusted anymore. Too much manipulation

Your chances that Costco is selling you a counterfeit product is pretty much zero.

Persian rice. You'll need a mortar and pestle to grind the saffron with salt.
