I have been eying this Samsung HW-Q90R for sometime. This is the best price I have seen from a reputed seller.

QA Edit: No longer sold by Vanns at Amazon for the $997.99 price (now $1497.99 from Vanns), next seller at OP's price is Walts TV for $997.99 but not fulfilled by Amazon

Sadly I got a counter offer of $725 let year for my offer of $700. I refused to accept :-( still regretting. One reason for me was it didn't have eARC at that time and I was not very sure if I really want to buy such an expensive sound bar with eARC. But Samsung finally updated the firmware and now it supports eARC.

I don't think so, but depends what you need. For this price you can get a much nicer system with regular speakers if you don't need to pay the premium for comoact size. But size does matter to some.

Bought the Q80R from greentoe in January for $600 . Same soundbar minus the the rear atmos speakers.

The Q90R is the latest soundbar sysyem model from Samsung, right? How does it compare with the newly-released Sonos Arc? Do you think this will drop to a better price on Black Friday? I just got my LG 55C9 and will be looking into purchasing a soundbar for it in the future.

Why is this $1k?

You can get an entire separates system using something like the Jamo deal plus a receiver for less than this.

If this would be your first surround sound system then you could consider starting with a Vizio system for under $300. I have had mine for a few years now, although other people have said theirs died within a year or two. Obviously it likely is a significant downgrade from a system like this but I have enjoyed using it for movies and videogames so far. If you are not an audiophile or have not much exposure to high-end surround sound systems then you probably will be good with it.

Honestly it was a panic buy lol.

I had four soundbars in mind.

This one, Sonos Arc, LG SN11RG, and the Namikachi.

Saw this deal and jumped. Will try it out and if I don't like it I'll have a few weeks to return it.
