How is it as a media storage device as far as read speed when the file is called for?

Can you take out the drive from the case or is it soldered? Does taking out the drive void the warranty? Thanks!

WD external portable drives typically have the USB 3 board instead of the SATA one.

Of course removing the drive from the case voids the warranty.

I have a 4tb version with which I'm quite happy. I got it a few years ago, and no issues. I seem to have had good experience with Western Digital drives over the years.

Needed xbox1 storage... I know it is a mistake, but I need amo if it fails for the next debate.. My hunch it is just as unreliable as the SMR Seagate...

No . Seriously, it was because OD/OM PMs Amazon.. Support local..

Just keep the original case and don't break it when shucking a drive. In the USA, the FTC ruled that a company can't void your warranty simply by taking a product apart, and will often even go after companies for those (illegal) "Warranty Void If Removed" stickers.
https://www.vice.com/en_us/articl...tc-letters

In many instances I've read, HDD makers (WD & Seagate specifically) will sometimes honor their warranty even if sent a bare drive, but I wouldn't bank on that. Just keep the enclosure.

This "My Passport" drive, of course, isn't shuckable though, no SATA connections on the bare drive. I think this is most common with 2.5" drives. Most external 3.5" drives I've dealt with are shuckable, but google specific model numbers to be sure before buying.
