Black foam filters last a very long time. I had a few OEM black filters provided with the machine purchase, and if they are gently washed once each week, why do they need to be replaced?
I already use non OEM white filters. I have some concerns about them: They are made of unknown material and the last prevention of particles to reach your lungs. Mine seem to very rarely get dirty, telling me that they don't filter as well as OEM white filters (which seem to get dirty faster).
The price difference per-filter between OEM and bulk non-OEM is significant. It would be interesting to hear from long-term CPAP users who have experimented with both OEM and non-OEM filters over the years.
I use a full-face mask because I have a tendency to mouth breathe (allergies clog my nose), but this means bypassing the nose's ability to filter out particles. As a result, I will tend to cough more when I haven't been up-to-date on replacing my CPAP white filter.
I tried out one of the non-OEM white filters off Amazon and as you noted, it's definitely not the same! They're one piece like a foam whereas the OEM filters have a mesh and backing that breaks apart if you leave it in water. I threw the non-OEM filters out because I cough a lot when using them.

Like you said, that means it's probably not catching as many particles as the OEM. I'm sad to have to throw them all out now and go back to expensive OEM white filters.
For the black foam filters, I don't see the rush to replace them if they're cleaned from time to time. If particles get past them, the white filters will catch it.
