I had an opportunity to check this laptop side by side with Dell XPS 15 latest. I am really glad that HP does not have numpad like spectre. I had spectre 15, not a fan of sidelined trackpad.

Dell XPS is better for:
Gorgeous bezel less build
Full Size SD card slot
Battery little better I guess

HP Envy is better for:
Price
GPU

HP is only few millimeters deeper than XPS. Not a deal breaker to me.RAM is upgradeable on HP.

6 cores, upgradable ram, 4.74 pounds, 84 wh battery. it's a little thick and heavy (much like yo mamma) but If I'd seen this before ordering the Dell that FedEx just picked up, I'd have at least looked up some reviews.
The dell resolution on the new XPS is way better. Makes a big difference.

Definitely would like to see some reviews, especially interested in thermal throttling (if any), battery life, reliability, etc... Was eyeing the XPS15, but only has 4g GPU ram and thermal issues. Need a laptop to edit videos and GPU is too important.

Great deal and if you have Perks@Work, depending on star level, you can get 20 or 30% back in Wow points. I also got a Bose QC35ii for ~ $270 with $81 back in points.

I have never encountered an issue... For large point rewards, try not to "burn" points as that will lower your overall saving...

Can the chasis cool the processor and GPU properly without overheating itself?

I purchased a 2019 envy from HP a year ago. Earlier this year, the hinges separated from the chassis. I took the computer apart thinking it was a loose screw .... Boy was I wrong ....

HP replaced the chassis and I was set. Luckly I purchased the 3 year warranty because on this design I anticipate it happening again.

Thanks for the vid. HP has been creating laptops for years and yet they haven't mastered producing a proper hinge?

The main culprit for weight would be the 84 Whr battery. The price you pay for a performance laptop with solid battery life.

Yes the new Ryzen lineup is amazing. Yes the scores on these benchmarks put it slightly behind the 45W ryzen chips. But almost every 4800H laptop sucks. I wish it wasn't the case. But it is. They either have bad displays, or are paired with ludicrously dumb GPUs, or overheat because of bad chassis design.

Disable turbo on the 9750h in the last gen XPS. Have one with a 1650 and it never exceeds 75 on either cpu or GPU on my cheap little low profile cooling pad.

CPU is still plenty fast for everything but CPU bottlenecked games. The GPU in the Dell isn't a problem heat-wise, as long as the temp from the CPU isn't driving the entire system's temp up by running at the insane 95+ it can without undervolting and turbo control. Those things were never designed to be run full tilt in thin n light chassis without some next gen cooling solutions.

Same thing helps the g14 to be a phenomenal tiny and light gaming laptop. Only thing is you're starting from a much better position with a really powerful and efficient cpu there

Wouldn't everyone? Intel lost the performance crown this cycle and is throwing heat and power in to try and match AMD, and still can't beat them. Blame the OEMs for not aggressively building AMD laptops with high specs. Half a year is too long.
