I have 5 of these deployed around my 2 story home. One in each bedroom, one on the main floor and one on the basement. They are accurate and the battery seems to last years. The recommendation is the setup I have for safety and peace of mind. Thankfully the only one that has ever registered any CO was the master bedroom which is over the garage where my wife leaves the car running too long sometimes.

Good deal. Of you don't have a carbon monoxide detector get a couple now.

It's strange to me that these are still not required by code.

Any idea how loud they are? Wondering if it would wake the heavy sleepers in the house?

They are very loud and the tone is uncomfortable. Again it's recommended to have one inside each bedroom to ensure it will wake you up.

If you care about safety consider advising her to turn off the car before closing the garage... Way too many don't...

Depends where you live I guess. They are required in CA. In the city I live in, any new building permit inspections will include a carbon monoxide detector check. If they are not installed, then the inspector will not sign off on the permit.

Gotcha, my statement should then read as "required by code everywhere."

FYI.

" The Kidde Ultra-Sensitive Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide Monitor KN-COU-B costs a lot more than typical options because it is capable of measuring much lower concentrations of CO than most residential detectors. Typical households will not need this level of sensitivity - you only need to get one of these if you have a medical condition that makes you more susceptible to low concentrations of CO gas."

Standard model is only ~$16
