The RYOBI Tek4 Digital Inspection Scope is designed for the job site and is great for plumbing, HVAC work, and home repairs. It features 4 ultra-bright LED lights for complete image brightness control and a dimming control. With a sturdy design, it's easy to hold and use. The digital zoom feature provides up to 2X magnification. They following is included:
  • Inspection Scope
  • Lithium-Ion Battery
  • Charger
  • Operator's Manual

It is supposedly 'factory blemished' but it is widely accepted that the items are just new (and it is a way to get around that Home Depot has exclusive rights to sell new Ryobi products). This same item new from Home Depot is $99. Heck, the certified pre-owned model from Direct Tools is over $20 more at $75! I f you don't have a store nearby then shipping is a flat $7.

does the scope have night vision? if not, what good is it
My post clearly says, "It features 4 ultra-bright LED lights..." -- and from the pictures I have seen it should do fine lighting up dark spaces.

And I never said it was, but I did imply it would light up a dark space so the camera can work -- and from what I understand it does a fine job of doing that. For some misguided reason you think it needs night vision for the camera to work. If you need night-vision goggles you are in the wrong thread! LOL

I have one. It works ok. Not the highest resolution. It was able to see inside a cracked engine block for me though and take some pictures. For this price, I'd buy it again. It's occasionally useful to have.

This thing takes pictures? Or did you use your phone to take a photo of the screen?

How would this compare to any of the USB camera on the end of a tube, doo-hicky things on that website that rhymes with schmamazon and plugs into a smartphone? Just search for Camera Endoscope on there and you'll see plenty of options in the $16 to $30 range.

I heard the phone ones drain the battery REALLY fast. I didn't mind spending a bit more to get a standalone unit with its own rechargeable (li-ion) battery.

No experience with this item, but as a general comment these are useful to have. I have one of the USB ones and have used it a lot to look behind walls when fishing wire etc. Plug it into an old phone with an OTG adaptor or into a laptop. Can take photos or record video. Main complaint with mine is the cable is soft so often tape it onto a wire fishing rod.

I have one of those which hook up to the phone but the phone gets really dirty when you are cutting drywall and looking behind it. Also, IDK if it is the one I have or all are the same, there is no marking on the camera to know which way is up. gets really confusing behind a wall when you are trying to find direction. But for this item, It has been available for $54 for a long time. I am waiting for it to come on a real deal.

You are correct, it's not night vision. But for most uses this is better with the LEDs as there might not be light for night vision to work.

Why you need night vision when it is better to see with LED lights? Just curious.
