Things to appreciate in this kit are the use of standard size filters for the three big stages, the standard sizes membrane and the included pressure gauges. 75GPD is a little small for my use considering how many kids I have. FYI this is only for drinking water out of the tap included, this is in no way a whole home system. I recommend having a whole home water filter as that will make the filters in this system stay fresh a lot longer and provide basic filtering for showers etc. I also have my ice maker connected to my system. there are a lot of great tips and tricks on YouTube on how to set up a RO drinking water system. Thanks OP, repped.

Anyone know when a pump is needed? I'd be using it in my basement and routing it over to my fridge.

you shouldn't need one, the water tank has an air bladder in it that gets pressurized as it fills up, once u open the tap it comes out depending on the pressure. you may need to add air occasionally to the tank, u can use a standard bike pump.

if its going up 2 stories it might not work.

Looks like the pump is a permeate pump. This increases the efficiency of the unit so less waste (brine) water is created in the RO process.

The pump reduces tds and reduces the waste water, and makes the ro membrane last longer. It's positioned before the membrane and doesn't influence output pressure.

Correct. You want the pump. It's passive and only downside is a "clicking" noise as the tank fills. May annoy some but really helps efficiency if your water pressure isn't perfectly ideal for ro

Isn't the pump only needed if your water pressure isn't adequate (otherwise there is no benefit)?

I bought the one with the pump in March. No regrets as it also fills the tank quickly. I also use this to fill 5 gallon water jugs.I do it in 3 segments as it only takes 20 mins to fill the 3 gallon tank. I am looking at adding a 5 gallon tank just to speed through this process. You might ask why do i need to fill a couple 5 gallon jugs. I have little kids that cant reach the sink. I bought a 3 in one system that makes ice. Yeah we have Alkaline ice and water in that machine thanks to this RO system.

I think he/she meant the main line's "basic filtering" takes the load off the RO unit's sediment primaries, then has the secondary benefit of reducing sediment in showers that mess with mist orfices, and some dont have screens. I had to back-pressure wash the grit in my shower head.
