Before I got my Traeger, I used to smoke on a gas grill. I used the ikea smoker box and wood chips. The reason is because it was 100% the fruit wood. These Bear Mountain (and many other pellets) are a mix of hardwoods even if it just says a single flavor. Like for Hickory, it's a mix of Hickory and either Oak or Alder. They do this because (1) it's cheaper to produce and (2) the pellets provide both the smoke flavor and the heat in a pellet smoker. Since you heat with gas, I would not recommend these pellets for that. You'll get more smoke flavor from chips or 100% fruitwood pellets.

Can I use these in a Master Built electric smoker or do I need a special pellet smoker? Thanks.
You can use them same as wood chips but you can also get a pellet smoke maze to put inside the smoker. There are different sizes and shapes depending on your needs. They sit or hang on one of the racks (or you can shield with foil and have below the racks). The mazes help produce consistent smoke during times when the electric coil turns off when temp hits its target.

I use these regularly, but i'm not seeing a deal direct from the manufacturer.

For people with a local Tractor Supply, Shiptons Big R or even Ace Hardware, these are regularly on sale for $6 (or $7, i forget) per 20lb bag.

Yes, they are good pellets. Definitely recommend them.

Crazy

Ordered 6 bags... cheaper than the pit boss or gmg pellets I normally get. Sounds like better quality too

Great deal. I have 2 bags from a previous order and really like the stuff. Am ordering 2 more. These work well on a Bog Green Egg grill. Just toss some pellets on the coals after they're hot. Don't know why I didn't think of that sooner but good product and great deal. Thanks OP

lysdexsickYes you can however I've tried pellets in mine and I've found that wood chips seem to burn more evenly and impart a better smoky flavor. If
These use a base wood of Alder and Oak, those are not for flavor but for heat. If using in an electric smoker with maze or tube you really should get something that does not use fillers. Lumberjack and amazenproducts have options.

I have beenusing these [amazon.com] from amazon for a couple years (same bag) with good results. It seems 20 dollars more expensive, however when you consider the percentage of actual flavor producing wood, it isn't and you are less likely to have disappointing results.

Now if you are using a pellet grill then the Bear Mountain seem a good choice and decent variety.

In for a couple of blends. If anyone has a suggestion for a smoker box for a gas grill, please send my way. Thanks!
Just used pecan + maple yesterday for butts and ribs. Excellent combo

The product page makes no mention of oak or alder, are you sure this brand uses fillers? The website claims 100%, and no fillers. If they use filler like oak and alder i would not recommend this priduct. At least if you are using them in smoker tray. Can anyone confirm?

EDIT: product FAQ confirms they all use oak and alder as a base https://bearmountainbbq.com/pages/faqs. May not be good for MES AMNPS
Just because they use a base wood like Oak or Alder doesn't make it a bad product. Even Lumberjack sells ones with Oak for some of their blends so always read the labels carefully. These are great for a pellet smoker, but yeah, I wouldn't use these in a MES.

Awesome! The oven broke so we're cooking everything in the treager. Bought 6 bags.
