Before I got my Traeger, I used to smoke on a gas grill. I used the ikea smoker box and wood chips. The reason is because it was 100% the fruit wood. These Bear Mountain (and many other pellets) are a mix of hardwoods even if it just says a single flavor. Like for Hickory, it's a mix of Hickory and either Oak or Alder. They do this because (1) it's cheaper to produce and (2) the pellets provide both the smoke flavor and the heat in a pellet smoker. Since you heat with gas, I would not recommend these pellets for that. You'll get more smoke flavor from chips or 100% fruitwood pellets.

I use these regularly, but i'm not seeing a deal direct from the manufacturer.

For people with a local Tractor Supply, Shiptons Big R or even Ace Hardware, these are regularly on sale for $6 (or $7, i forget) per 20lb bag.

Yes, they are good pellets. Definitely recommend them.
Not seeing this on the tractor supply site. Also could not find them in store. Only found amaz n, and Myron Mixon. Which store and what area please.

I know this is a naive question, but I'm new to smoking and I do NOT have a pellet smoker, I have a gas standing smoker that has a tray at the bottom for bits of wood and/or charcoal, could I put pellets in the bottom basket? Or would they not properly smoke since it's not a pellet smoker with that focused heat on the pellet?
If you want to add smoke flavor to your existing smoker (or grill), get an A-MAZE-N pellet tube or equivalent. Generally 2 of them will fill a smoker or grill with plenty of smoke for hours.

That's what I have used, too.
However, these are supposed to produce less ash, so no dust on those long cooks.

These competition pellets are my mainstay, but the specific woods offered in the Bear Mountain deal are going to be interesting to try for several advanced dishes and flavors, and roughly the same price as Walmart+gas+time. If you don't mind the same flavor profile all the time, buying the competition blend or some cheap mesquite that someone else posted about should be fine. 40lbs of variety from Bear Mountain at this price is a good deal to learn more or up your game beyond the basic.

Pit Boss are great, auto feeds pellets from the hopper. I have the 820 Pro but its pricy. Here are couple lower cost barrel styles..

https://www.amazon.com/Pit-Boss-7...01GFX0104/

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pit-Bo.../160692525

Pit Boss also make vertical smokers, I never used them.. Do your research. Check previous clearance prices listed on SD.
How do you like the 820 pro? I have been wanting a Pitboss for Awhile and was just going to get the standard 700. Then I saw the 820 pro and think I might go that route. The side shelf and front shelf are nice and the little extra space.

Wish the 820 had the lever to open the sear grate like the 1100...

Any other benefits you've found?

Have you ever tried smoking a brisket on a pellet grill with a bag of pellets that has sat outside or in a humid garage? Based on your answer, I guess no. His reasoning is actually intelligent for asking the question, and it's not always a porch pirate to worry about.
I actually have, with my pitboss pellets which sit outside under my grill in all weather covered by my grill tarp. My grill still smokes them like a champ and I get an amazing smoke ring. I do not expose them to direct moisture, so unless you drench your pellets no issue. I got two bags of this stuff to see how it compares to the pitboss pellets.

I also use the above, I started using pellet grills just last year, but to me they seem to be a great buy for the price. I got two bags from this brand of the gourmet to compare.
