JULY4STACK10 = Save 10%
Pre-order for shipping on 7/31/20

Everything is Customizable:
1. Select 4500U CPU +$90
Option b. Select 4700U CPU +$227
Option c. Select 4300U CPU (equal to I5-9300H, very fast)

2. Select 1000 nits LCD screen which is 72% NTSC / 99% srgb +$142 (Now $172)
Option b: There is no option B. Unfortunately you cannot get this with a possibly cheaper 400 nit/72% NTSC screen as the spec sheet says is available.

3. Select Integrated 720P Webcam

4. Select 4GB RAM. Two slots available and a 16GB RAM pack costs $130, cheaper than the $200 upgrade
Option b: Select 8GB ram (single stick) for $+90. You can add another stick later.
It is very easy to change the RAM/HD. Undo 4 screws and the back cover pops up.

5. Select 500GB harddrive. You can change this to a 2.5" or M2 SSD, 500GB for about $50

6. Select Realtek WiFi
Option b: Select Intel WiFi 6.$9 There have been issues as this is new technology that must be paired with a WiFi 6 router. Personally I don't need it

7. Option to select Fingerprint reader for $12

8. Option to select 65w power supply for $2 extra. I would not select the USB-C adapter because there's an option to buy a HP USB-C display adapter that connects to HDMI.

9. Option to go all the way back up and select FreeDOS to save $141. This is great if you already have Windows on an SSD you're going to be putting into the system, or you could obviously buy Windows for much cheaper elsewhere.

Reason to buy this laptop: This notebook has separate mouse buttons, a Full HD 1000 nit 99% sgrb screen, great thermals, two ram slots (none soldered), a 2.5" HD port (great if you already have a 2.5" SSD to replace it with), and you have 3 weeks to decide if you want to keep it or not. Cancelling requires calling HP but it's very simple.

Total = $720 - 10% JULY4STACK10 coupon = $650 + Tax or $575 without Windows, $495 with the 4300U CPU and without Windows

You can choose 8GB for $81 more AC, buy another 4GB stick on amazon for $35, or buy 8GB for $60

How does the windows licensing work if you select Freedos, does it still come with a windows key built into the bios, or would you have to activate with an OEM key (that you presumably own or buy)

I've been struggling on whether this is worth it all weekend.

Ive been using perks at work(not sure if it makes a difference in price). You get 45% off all the upgrades. So i built a free dos, 4700U, the FHD 1000 nits display with privacy screen, 4gb of ram, 500gb 7200 rpm hard drive, wifi 6, finger print scanner, 65 watt usb c charger it comes out to $675 plus tax.

If i buy this i would pick up a reseller windows key for 30 bucks (ive done this several times never had an issue), upgrade the ram to 16 gb for about 60 bucks(both slots are upgradeable), and pick up a 1tb ssd nvme for about 120. So another 210 dollars.

After all that not quite sure its worth it....

*EDIT: I ended up buying that configuration above, the perks at work reward points below makes it a great deal.

If you have access to perks at work make sure you use that. When i purchased they had 20x points for purchasing at hp. I bought the gold status upgrade for $50 from perks at work, which gives you an additional 50% more points, however if you earn 10,000 points by December you get $50 dollars in points back, which makes up the cost for the status upgrade. So i ended up with 30% in points back, about $200 (20,000 points) worth, plus another $50 in points for hitting 10,000 points.

It seems like most Ryzen notebooks come with crappy displays and this is certainly the nicest one I've seen so far. The 45wh battery is a bummer though, especially with a 2.5" drive bay right next to it.

Needs to be $500 for this to be close to a deal.....
With a 1000 nit screen? That would be more than a deal, that'd be a price mistake.

You would need a windows key since the laptop won't come with a built in windows key.

Have you personally used this screen before? I only ask since I've seen generally negative comments on the privacy screen, even when turned off (on elitebook g6, not this probook)

Also, if I was to get this I'd probably fit 32gb ram - the tech specs say that 16gb is the max, although Crucial imply that it can take 32gb

Also, if you have perks at work, it tlooks like they're currently giving 20x wow points (30x for gold members), so that's like another 20-30% off

It's similarly priced as the expired X13 through EPP that would have cost $800 to get the 1000 nit screen. But this HP allows you to go as low as the 4300U and still choose the nice screen.

Nope never seen the screen. I was mixed on that as well, thanks for the input on it. That drops it 70 dollars or so. If i choose the FHD 250 nits screen. Yeah 32gb ram makes sense.
