^^ That link should bring you to your Paypal Business Debit homepage. You should see the offer there.

Anyone with a Paypal Business Debit card can get some pretty sweet cashback rewards that you must activate in your Paypal account. Either unlimited 1.25% CB or $20 CB for every $1,000 spent (2% CB). Whatever offer you choose will pause your normal unlimited 1% CB until September 30th.

I'm guessing this is the most generous CB reward given for a debit card currently. Nice!

Can anyone using this card confirm if this card gives the 1% cashback on paying bills which normally don't accept credit cards like mortgage, HOA, etc?
If they have a Debit card option yes it should work.

I'm somewhat new to this - when I click on the cash back link, I see the following condition. Does it mean not all transactions, such as rent and mortgage will qualify for the cash back?

Cash back
You'll receive 1% unlimited cash back when your purchase is completed as a credit transaction by phone, online, or in stores. Payments using a PIN or transactions that the merchant processes as PIN-less debit are not eligible for cash back. Additionally, you'll only receive cash back when your monthly-earned cash back is at least $1.00. Cash back earned that's less than $1.00 will not be awarded and does not carry over to the next month.
We'll add the cashback to your balance in PayPal weekly. For details, please refer to the frequently asked questions and the Cardholder Agreement.

Which bank is the issuer for this card? Synchrony? If so they and Citi have had the most complaints from consumers during the pandemic for treating people like crap. Doesn't matter really because they will change the terms any time they feel like it and there's nothing you can do but cancel your account if you don't like it. I think you're better with one of those cash or credits/ reward points for spending a certain amount within the first 3 months. In that way, you know for sure that you will get the bonus rewards points or credits at the start if you have any big purchases you are planning on buying.
Paypal is running the terms. The card is issued by Bancorp Bank according to the back of the debit card. This card has existed for at least 10 years. Never any problems. Paypal's not hurting, if anything their stock price has just been going up because of all the people buying online during the pandemic. I highly doubt they will change the terms of the cashback. They aren't known to do that. Maybe they end sign ups though if a ton of people try joining. That's about it though.

EXACTLY. Other debit cards simply don't have cashback. It's a great habit to get into to pay with money that you have and not relying on Daddy's money ( aka your credit card intuition's money). Sure, a credit card is nice for certain cashbacks (like Discover cards 5% towards Christmas time). Its up to your personal preference. I'm not someone that likes to have any debt and I don't want to carry any balances on a credit card.

Got it, just confirming the math. Interesting way of making you choose between the 2 options, I read the cashback is paid weekly too, so it looks like check your running spend total from the first day of each week to the last and ensure you're spending into the next $1000 and not just under to make the most of the $20 per $1000 option!
The cashback is calculated by the month. So you don't have to worry about having to spend $1,000 every week. I've had the debit card now for many years now. Your cashback balance may update every week though, that's different than your requirements to meet the $1,000 threshold. That's monthly.

Yes
Would you recommend upgrading the current personal account to a business account or should I apply for a new business account instead? I don't use paypal much, probably 1-2 transactions per month.

I would just upgrade the account to business. There's no fees or anything.

There is no acc and routing numbers so I understand why that limits people. It still can take money direct from your bank account though and still have Paypal backing for returns/complaints/etc.

It costs nothing to get it or maintain it, no fees. You can get cashback with it since bank debit cards don't have offer any.

If you have lots of cash going into your account it provides easy access to using that money. I understand a CC has much better return most times. They also have interest if not paid off and other fees perhaps and a credit check. Since this has none of those it might be an option.
I just wanted to know if you get account & routing number with this but if not..seems like Discover checking is the way to go for me. Thanks for confirming!

I can see a possible problem using to pay a mortgage. In the fine print it states that transactions between financial institutions are excluded. Esp if your mtg is held at a bank or other financial institution.

Anyone can confirm? Thanks

What about the safety of your money when you are using a debit card instead of a credit card? Aren't you liable for all purchases on your debit card? Whereas with credit card, you aren't liable for scam charges. This feature alone is worth using your credit card instead of your debit card and it has saved my ass a few times already. But then again, I carry a zero balance on 8 or 9 of my credit cards and some of them I dont even use. My credit score is in the high 700's. Credit cards only make money off of me through the interchange fees that they charge the merchants. Therefore I have no incentive to use any debit card.

That was always the rule of thumb before, that Debit cards are not protected. Every banking system is different so I can't speak on behalf of all banks and their protections for Debit card purchases, but I've had my Paypal Business Debit card be fraudulently used once in about 10 years of use. Paypal emails you every time your card is used so I noticed it right away. Someone tried spending something like $3,500 from my account. They didn't log into my Paypal account, they used my card details. I told Paypal that those transactions were fraudulent, they knew it too because the transactions were happening in businesses in the UK. They told me not to worry, and gave me back all of my money.

That's the only time I've dealt with fraudulent use of my Paypal Debit card. The funds were in my Paypal account at the time. Would they have handled it differently if the funds came out of my bank instead? I'm not sure. I'm sure a quick call to Paypal would answer these scenarios.

I did notice mention of that in the fine print. I've never personally tried to do it, but I'm sure that's exactly why that is in the fine print, to prevent people from earning CB on Mortgage payments. It makes sense since they are large payments. Hopefully in the future someone can come back into this thread and let others know if the CB worked for them on a Mortgage payment.

my apartment only takes echeck without fees which needs a routing number and account number.

To my understanding, this would not earn me any cashback correct?

This is not a bank, you will not get a routing number and account number.

This only seems useful for businesses that only accept cash or debit. There aren't very many like that. I'd probably end up only using this for one store that I know of.

Having worked in hospitality, it's honestly mind boggling how many people don't understand the difference between a credit card or debit card. A lot of Americans have poor financial understanding. It was always surprising to me that as a teenager, there were grown adults who would think their debit card was a credit card and also that many of those same people wouldn't have more than a $100 in their personal bank account. Really opened my eyes to how financially illiterate the average Joe can be.
