For those wondering why would anyone downgrade the firmware of these headphones, it's because in a recent update Sony (unknowingly?) reduced the effectiveness of the active noise canceling. Some users theorize it's to promote the new WH-1000XM4 model coming soon. To remedy this, a user made a script to downgrade the headphone firmware back from version 4.1.1 to 2.0.0.
"Won't I miss out on new features and fixes?" you may ask... The only significant update the headphones have received was Alexa support. So as far as anyone is concerned, you honestly don't need to update these headphones at all unless you want to use the Sony Headphones app and/or want Alexa support.
I would like to add that I recently purchased these headphones and am using them as I type this. Honestly, I don't really notice that big of a difference. If you're not tech savvy or dont care much about the noise canceling, I wouldn't really bother.

Wow, good to know that Bose wasn't the only one pulling this crap..
This has been my thought as well. Not sure if I should pull the trigger on this or wait for the XM4. I'm not overly worried about it being a tiny bit cheaper every couple of months.

I've been considering these vs anker q20. Yes, totally different price tiers, but 90% of my interest is comfortableness+ANC (I want to wear them 90% of my time awake) and the anker's get great hype. I just don't want to buy those then have these - the #1ish wireless ANC headphone - go on sale a week later for $210 max.
