They better optimized some things but it's still a very noticeably poor port. I've played it on PC, Xbox, and Switch, only the Switch version has problems and it has enough of them I'm kind of shocked they haven't either recalled it or done WAY MORE to bring it up to parity with the other versions. I just got to the two towers/clock towers area and when it zooms out the entire game slows down to a framerate that's either in the high single digits or the low teens. Is it playable? Absolutely. Anyone who's been playing games since the time when we first made the leap to 3D will have seen far worse, but it's still quite subpar compared to any other version of the game.

Apart from the frame rate there's an issue with poorly made games in the Unreal engine where any model that goes ragdoll has several of its points stretch to obscene limits and when it happens it drags the performance down drastically. The Flying Edge (one of my favorite weapons) also causes performance issues on some screens where it's trailing effect covers far too much of the screen and drags framerate down to the single digits. The little animation that plays above Miriam's head when she levels up can also cause slowdown.

I really don't want to seem like I hate the Switch port. It works. You can play through the game, but it is a disappointingly inferior way to do it. A better port should have been very doable on the Switch which runs Doom (2016) and Divinity: Original Sin II much better than it does Bloodstained, which is a much less demanding game. But I've been playing exclusively in handheld mode and maybe these issues are less frequent with the power boost you get in docked mode?

I just happen to think that if this is going to be your first time with Bloodstained it'll make a much better impression on any other platform.
I've been on a big Metroidvania kick lately and it's really made me appreciate how good Bloodstained is. I've been playing it on the Switch and even though that port is abysmal I'm still enjoying it. If you haven't played Bloodstained before please get any other version of it and save yourself the pain of entire areas that suffer from severe slowdown and all kinds of Unreal engine glitches and bugs that don't exist in the other ports. But if Switch is your only option there's still a good game there but you'll be fighting the lag in the controls in order to see it.

I thought the switch version was fixed by an update. Is that not true?

Someone else, but I played it quite a few months back and didn't notice any real issues (player it handheld).

For $20 on the Switch, I'd definitely recommend it.

Fantastic game; if you're a fan of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (or any of the similar followups) you absolutely MUST play this.

Ive had this for about a week and half. Bought it for $19 @ Walmart. Its def a must try for any Castlevania or metroidvania fan. I actually prefer their retro title Curse of the Moon. But Ritual of the Night is a good time on Switch!

Thank you so much for posting this! Been waiting to pick up Bloodstained forever, but hesitated because of the glitches and frame rate issues which have plagued the Switch version. Supposedly patches and updates have fixed quite a few issues. Definitely worth a try for $20.

Finding the armor to get through the spikes was ridiculous, to say the least. Be warned that this game can be very obtuse at times.

This game should be great for the switch once they finish making it.
