I thought the same thing, but plugged it into a smart plug; set a schedule to turn off every other hour for an hour and off overnight. Lasts 3x as long (compared to being on 24\7) and smell isn't as strong.
specifically bought a four pack from a deal on here for a no-name China brand, four plugs for $20. obviously you have to install their app but it's a set once and forget type of thing. since the power draw of the plugs are so low I am not concerned with overheating\fire risk and the plugs are always cool to the touch. still I unplug when leaving the house for more than a day to be safe. please don't flame, I am using proper kasa plugs for more important things.
