As is often the case in recent years, Walmart.com has much lower prices than Amazon for certain items, such as this Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier ( model# FFAD5033W1 ) that Walmart.com is selling for $ 205.00 + free 2nd day shipping.
[By comparison, Amazon.com has a current selling price that's 30% higher at $268.98.]

I chose to buy this model, because when doing my research, I read that this particular dehumidifier was found to be the most energy efficient 50-pint dehumidifier of all the dehumidifiers tested so far (as of today's date) by this website. Check with your local utility company for rebates on Energy Star dehumidifiers. Comed in Illinois offers a $50 rebate.

I bought this one and it lasted exactly 2 years to the day. I had it on continuous run for the most part. Once the filter light went on (counts so many hours of run time) now it just shows code F2 and won't start even after cleaning the filter and unplugging for an hour/days. Called around and no one services these machines, even authorized service Frigidaire service centers. They said to just toss it and buy new, not worth the repair cost. Just letting you know to expect around 2 years of use out of it.

Check with the manufacturer, it's most likely under warranty for this type of fault even if it's post the one year mark

I don't normally get a protection plan with any purchase but this seems like a good time to get one. Walmart offers a 4 year plan for $46.18. Especially since most dehumidifiers don't last long. Anyone else replace a unit through protection plans?

FYI: Per the guide from Frigidaire website: "Your appliance is covered by a limited one-year warranty for functional repairs only." http://manuals.frigidaire.com/pro...2519en.pdf

I can confirm this. I was having issues with mine not functioning properly and showing an "FO" code. My unit was passed the one year warranty but I contacted Frigidaire and was informed that it was actually a 5 year warranty that my purchase qualified for. The process was simple, fill out a form, complete a checklist and recieved a replacement within 2 weeks. I would recommend anyone having issues with theirs to contact Frigidaire and see what they can do for you.

I'll give it another shot! When I called in the call center rep said it's only got a 1 year warranty and gave me a list of authorized service centers. Called them and they all said they don't work on dehumidifiers. But I'll give them a second call tomorrow and see if I get a different response. Thanks!

Don't forget if your credit card also automatically offers extended warranties.

Keep in mind it doesn't have a pump with it so you will have to constantly empty it. When i purchased a dehumidifier i ended up returning it for one with a pump that runs a hose to a sink or drain. Was worth the extra cost for me to not have to empty it a few times a week

You can get a BJs membership for $25, making this deal cost the same as the OP for the walmart deal, and then have BJs membership for a year. Even if there isn't a club near you, you can get good deals with free shipping from them often.

I remember my parents old dehumidifier chugging along in their basement - the one with exposed copper coils in the back. Lasted forever. I've been through two of these new (different brand) dehumidifiers and neither lasted more than two years. Bring back the classic!
