Many do not have a MC near
They could charge 5 dollars for shipping and still be cheaper

That's not the issue, even though it would cost more than $5 to ship. The issue is their pricing is a loss leader, to get people in the door, because they know many will buy other things.
MC is not losing any money on (desktop)CPU pricing.. apparently this person knows nothing about wholesale 101.. to stay in business just about everything in the store earns a profit with few exceptions such as YMMV deals which are unicorns. The cost of running a B&M store is too damn high for them not to make a profit. The wholesale prices are usually quoted in price per 1,000 CPUs but MC probably deals in the 10,000s buy range and must obviously get a heads up on coming price cuts so they don't order thousands of chips prior to the cut...
