I mean, it's an amazing piece of hardware, and if you really need one NOW.. sure, I guess. But knowing what we know about the future of the platform, maybe see if you can get a couple more years out of the MacBook you already have 😂
A lot of people are wondering the value in this: A TON but only if you need the MacOS ecosystem. If you need MacOS for specific Programs: Sketch, for example.
MacOS is more tailored for the hardware so the UI is buttery smooth compared to Windows.
The trackpad has no competitors. Small detail, yes; but one when you use it it really shows.
The hardware is solid. Components are quality, materials are very top quality and the feel is sturdy. The screen is one of the best of the picked bunches. Yes you can get 4k or 120hz+ 1080p but the Macbook 16" is top notch for the resolution and scaling it offer.
Now this in particular is the last for Windows support. No more when Intel are gone. When ARM comes it'll be gone. Hackintoshs' are still buggy and to many are not worth the time and tech ability for many. You COULD play some games on this if you wanted. The 5500m is not bad and about a 1660 in equivalent. It'll likely be the last of its bunch.
Now if you have no need for the MacOS ecosystem you have plenty of options. The Apple-tax is high but you do get a lot for your buck if its what you need. If I ha not gotten mine with the 5600m already I would be buying this in a heartbeat.
Comes out to a little over $3,400 ish after tax and Apple Care (always get the AC on these big machines). About $400 more than what I paid for my 16gb ram model.
I'd pull the trigger on this one if I needed a 16" for video editing, yada yada yada.

Definitely agree. Especially considering that the apple silicon ARM based MBP is on the horizon. My 2013 MBP can hold for another 6 months just fine

Savings some money on a $3k laptop is worth it. Even the $300 is a nice savings to put towards extras you may want; dongles, docks, software etc

The person who buys this probably doesn't commute to work.
Lol I own a late 2013 MBP too!
Agree! Apple has a nice reputation on macs, but I gave up and built a nice pc with half price!
Apple will release a MacBook substitutes, not Pro substitutes in 6 month
