How is this as a solo router vs a mesh system? I live in a 3 floor small-ish townhouse.
Do you need Wi-Fi 6 support? How fast is your internet connection? Where does your router sit in the house? Bottom floor? Middle floor?
In general, a Mesh system with dedicated backhaul will do better than a solo router for connections far from the primary router, but you'll want dedicated backhaul (either wired or a "tri-band") and you'll want to ensure you have a fast enough internet connection to justify it.

Thanks for this. Lots to think about. I have 1gig internet now (too cheap to pass up) but really don't need to maximize every inch. It's gaming, WFH, streaming to a few Apple TV's. I am on the fence but keep thinking one of the mesh systems will be a nice upgrade. Currently using an AirPort Extreme which works well but I've been trying to see if something better is out there...

Mesh - better coverage.
Conventional router - more features / lower latency - preferred for gaming.
TBH on a 3 story home i would probably lean towards a mesh setup that is if you need good coverage on all floors.
Keep in mind you need wifi-6 compatible devices to really benefit from higher speeds offered. I tried these last night and on 1 gigabit At&T plan, i got ~900Mbps on all iphone's at the house which was exciting but all my desktops, laptops, fireTv etc did not really benefit.
Netgear sucks. Need to power cycle the router every few weeks. Their software is absolutely garbage. Access control is absolutely terrible. Parental control? There is none.

My Netgear R6900 came with Disney Circle parental controls (and so does this router). It's been working great for my family for a while.
Thinking about this as an incremental upgrade. Going from the Archer C9 which has been really good up until this year, but I think we're at the point where it's being maxed out. If anybody is using this router, how does it handle noise? We live in a dense area with TONS of noise from other wireless networks nearby. Cheers

If you can put it on the middle floor, the mesh has no real advantage. If you get coverage everyewhere right now, you'll be fine with this router. If you aren't getting good coverage, generally a new router won't solve the problem as the issue is often on the client broadcasting end, NOT the router.
I know all sorts of people that "upgrade" to mesh but had perfectly fine coverage with a single router.

Google your model? Is older than 2 years?

Does NetGear charge for the parental controls?
