Legacy RAM has gotten expensive, especially the speeds above 1600. Good deal if you need DDR3 with speeds faster than 1600 right now. Might be cheaper in a few months - who knows?

10 months ago was $44 AR and AC. https://slickdeals.net/e/13372642-16gb-patriot-viper-3-2-x-8gb-ddr3-1866-desktop-ram-kit-50-ar-newegg-now-44-ar-ac?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1
Has been high $50's in other posted deals.

Thanks! I'm trying to stretch out the life of this old PC and DDR3 never seems to go on sale.
I sold 2 16GB DDR3 1866 kits on ebay for $60 each just last week.

I would say less money for brand new stuff is a pretty good deal.
Where? Prices on ebay have been pretty damn close to new lately unless you're into risky Chinese junk ram.

Good price for this. In for 1. Haven't bought anything from Newegg in a long time. Nostalgia for me. Thanks!

OP, you make a good point about the legacy RAM. I have been noticing that too. Do you know why any chance why it is more expensive these days and not the other way around?

Because it's no longer produced in the numbers it used to be. If you're buying DDR3 new, in 2020, you might be doing it wrong. There's a ton of cheap DDR3 on the used market. It does not get "old" or wear out.

Very tempted being I still have 3 rigs that use DDR3. I always think about upgrading a couple of them and obviously moving up to DDR4 when I do, but for the most part all 3 machines are still doing what I need from them. If I can manage to get this on sale for under $50 shipped I'll jump on it, until then I'll deal with my current setups.
Nice to see it for a decent price though.

Would I be able to use 1866mhz ram if my motherboard says 1600mhz slots? Pros or cons?

You have to be careful of memory voltage. It will not go faster than your bios.

1.5 volt versus 1.35 volt. A 1.5 volt cannot run at 1.35 volts. But 1.35 volts I believe can run at 1.5

Yes, you can use a low voltage RAM module, rated at 1.35 V or 1.25V with a normal RAM module rated at 1.5 V. The Low voltage RAMs (DDR3L) are backwards compatible so they would work with most of the CPU and Motherboard combinations

I have 8 gigs ram with FX6300 cpu. But I just bought Radeon XFX rx570 8 gig video card for 140. The Video card with 8 gigs is going to be better for your system than going from 8 gigs to 16 gigs.

I can always take my 570 and put in a DDR4 with newer processor...but the DDR3 goes bye bye.

Using passmark, there is mark difference in performance and my six core FX6300 can still manage enough of the game so that my RX 570 can take over.

My two cents. Unless you are running a ton of applications then you really need more memory.

At microcenter you can get I5 9400f with 16 gigs and motherboard for 300 bucks...but I wait for sale on AMD processor. Always get the most bang for your buck with AMD.

Nostalgia, sure. Wait until you realize how long it takes for your order to arrive - that will really hit you in the feels.

Bought some last year, I think it was Fry's on sale, after watching the insane prices people were asking on FB and CL. Turned around and sold the smaller sticks that I took out for almost as much as I had just paid for the 16gb. No idea where your "ton of cheap DDR3" can be found.
