Pro tip: to keep it from popping open if you have especially puffy batter, turn it so it's vertical and the handle grip will keep it closed. It'll hiss with steam but it's pretty solid.
True. I know most stuff is. Mine's just one of those really crappy off brand knockoffs. Heats unevenly and stuff. It sucks
Maybe you just got a cheap off brand and want to blame a product that is made in China. I have a Cuisinart waffle maker made in China and it still works fine after 6+ years
