The popular remote starter from Best Buy is back as the deal of the day. Nice for cooling your car blasting the ac in the hot summer or warming up in the cold winters!

Go visit Florida for a few days and you will change your mind quickly. I start my car remotely and the inside of the car is much cooler. I'm 100% sure this is not a gimmick.
I'm also a car guy and never understand this rhetoric. People are usually warming up their cars in winter. Driving your car short distances without letting the oil and fluids warm up is way more harmful than letting the car run for 3-5 minutes.
If you want someone to compare products for you, would you kindly provide a link to the one on ebay that you had your eye on?

If you have the total tech package it is only $139 plus free install. Love that program! The work is also guaranteed for as long as you own the car. Read reviews, some cars do not work well with this. Also, not all bestbuys have their techs back, you need to find out which bestbuy in your area has these services. COVID has crippled a lot of them. Only 3 bestbuys in SW PA have car services.

I didn't specifically have one product in mind, but they are just so much cheaper on ebay if you search remote starter. I'm wondering if the installation / labor cost is worth the premium if the product is available cheaply.

Sorry for the confusion.

EDIT: Here's an example. Is this similar? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Keyl...4335939265

I love mine. Waiting for the LTE drone model to go back on sale for $299 again for the wife's new car.

The free installation from Geek Squad is what makes this deal worth it. Also the 2 way remote (just one of them) is handy so you are sure that your car responded to the command.

edit: Geek Squad (no matter how young they look) do hundreds of these a year, they're pros

Although a generic remote starter may work, I think it's security and reliability is likely questionable at best.

I don't trust the Geek Squad installs. I have couple friends that have work done at BB and they were amateur installs. Connections were all twisted together and electric taped. They ran wires without thinking and the wires get cut after a year or so.

Installed a dashcam for my friend and noticed bestbuy pretty much brute forced their way into removing the a pillar. They did it so aggressively that the headliner separated from the foam. They definitely don't give a shit about your car.

Car guy here...fwiw, both warming your car (engine and cabin) and cooling it down work a lot better when the car is actually moving. Sitting idle warms up very slowly in cold weather, and in summer the A/C components don't get much heat exchange without airflow.

I'm 90% in the "gimmick" camp for remote starters, but they're great for scaring the hell out of nearby people in parking lots.

My Acura MDX has remote start and it's the most amazing thing. I don't know if built in RS is better than a product like this. Being able to have my car be 70 degrees instead of 20 and all the windows defrosting without stepping outside in the winter is amazing.
