Unfortunately I doubt it. 128gb SSD and UHD 617 graphics make this a tough choice for anything more than basic web browsing and light work. In this price range, you might want to go for a Windows machine or save up more for a beefier MacBook.

I suppose this is a good deal if you have very basic needs and want something Apple. Of course there are way better specs available at this price from Windows PCs on here, but Apple kind of exists in a different space.

I have a Dell XPS with similar specs. It's fine for smaller file sizes (when I had a Sony A7III), but struggles with larger size files when editing my Sony A7rIII pictures. I'll recommend the ASUS laptop that's currently on the front page right now just to future-proof

Is this Apple certified refurbished? I'm guessing it is since micro center is a certified reseller but I just want to be sure.

Can you recommend a Windows PC at this price range with way better specs? I have seen some around the same specs at this price range, but not a lot better. From my experience, the macOS takes better advantage of the hardware, so it seems to run better on a little lower specs. I'm no expert, I've only got one, a MacBook Pro that's a couple years old, but it's still running like new. I'm just looking for something for my son for distance learning that he can also play Minecraft on and that isn't going to be completely obsolete in 3 years.

If your keyboard breaks- you're going to pay a fortunate to get it fixed. The specs on it are so average... I returned the 2020 MBA and was highly disappointed. I flip between a MBP 2020 and Surface Laptop 2. I usually use the Surface Laptop 2 and it's an amazing laptop.

I'd stay away if I was you

Pretty much everything here is behind in terms of tech. I got a $550 Yoga C740 recently with much better specs. This has:

Bluetooth 4.2 (not 5.1)
WiFi 5 (not 6)
Intel UHD 617 graphics (not even 620)
128gb SSD (256gb is a universal minimum nowadays)
DDR3 RAM (not DDR4)
And the infamous pre-2020 butterfly Apple keyboard.

That said, it would probably be fine for a kid to play Minecraft on. It would certainly run better than a PC with these specs, for what it's worth. It might even last three years, the real limiting factor would be that 128gb SSD... that will fill up very quickly, even for a kid. I'm not sure the SSD is replaceable, I would check if you plan to buy.
