Not multiple of the same card. 1 Freedom Unlimited and 1 Freedom — yes.

If you get rejected sometimes there are errors in their automation side or just simply discrepancies. I have always called the reconsideration lines for credit agencies and sometimes even gotten approved over the phone.

At the least it will tell you why you got denied and it will be a learning experience. In this specific case: Always call laugh out loud
That's not how the offer reads:

Earn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.* And earn 5% cash back on grocery store purchases (not including TargetĀ® or WalmartĀ® purchases) on up to $12,000 spent in the first year.*
Yes you are. The Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited are different cards. Go and apply for it! If you do, please use someone's referral link (they get $100) to share the wealth!

This card is nothing competitive unless you sign up only for the signup bonus. After the first year with 5% CB for groceries and 15 months 0% APR on purchases, it will be in the drawer eating dust since it does not have ongoing and rotating 5% CB on different categories. It also has foreign transaction fee. Interested in 1.5% CB on all purchases? Get Citibank Double Cash to earn 2% on all purchases then!

Keep in mind that every time you apply for a credit, creditors will pull your credit report and each pull will drag your credit score lower by 10 to 15 points. Maintaining good credit score will earn you higher credit limits on your credit cards and more promotion offers such as 0% balance transfers with lower transaction fees and longer repaying periods. If you apply too many credit cards in a relatively short period of time, creditors may think you are in financial difficulty, especially during the pandemic, and would be more strict on your credit applications, lower your credit lines on your existing accounts in order to lower their risk and exposure, or even close your existing accounts. AMEX is notorious in such actions and they are not regretted of doing so.

On the other hand, many people treat a high credit score as a pride. But really, high credit score doesn't turn out anything beneficial to you except pride. If you are not planning to get a long term loan such as a mortgage or an auto loan, there is no need to keep your credit score in the top tier that categories excellent credit. I myself will cash out credit card signup promotions once or twice awhile, but I will only pick those that are really attractive and the cards are worth to keep. All in all, you have to balance this up yourself. Do not listen to anyone on internet forums advising you what to do, including my comments, because that is your personal credit. Every move you make will have certain risk, and it takes time to repair the credit once it gets hurt.

What you guys think? Is it worth grabbing another? Just curious of ur thoughts Slickdealers

NVM found it

I want to refer my brother, getting the regular freedom for him as I prefer the 1%/5% qtrly bonus.

The 5% CB on the first yr grocery is good. I already maxed out my SAR(5%, or 7.5% if I were to redeem with paymyself back)), and almost done with AMEX grocery purchase at 4%

Also use the card to buy GC at market where they give 2% back where one can redeem for grocery.

If you think the card is a sock-drawer 1.5% CB card you don't understand the card.

It's a 1.5x UR card.

Which if used properly can be worth quite a bit more than 1.5%.

For example CSR holders can currently redeem UR for 1.5 cents per point for grocery stores, home improvement stores and dining establishments

Meaning the 1.5 UR you'd earn on this for "regular" non-category purchases would effectively be 2.25% cash-back against all those categories.

When there's not pandemic travel restrictions you can do the same on travel at the LOW end of value- often you can get quite a bit more than the 2.25% cash back equivalent for other travel options involving transferring points to travel partners.

(obviously stacking that with the 5x on grocery spend for the first year makes it insanely great the first year- but even after that it's solid for this reason)

We've opened dozens of cards in the last several years for signup bonuses, we don't regularly use more than maybe 3-5 cards at any given time though.

My credit score has remained comfortably above 800 the entire time.

It's free money, and a decent bit of it if done right.

That said- take the time to read, and learn, the rules of the various banks so you understand what cards, in what order, is optimal.

For example I'd normally say to stick to the Ink Unlimited card (which won't eat a 5/24 slot) instead of wasting a 5/24 slot on this card which (normally) is the same card effectively.

But with the 5x promo for a year it might well be worth it, especially during a pandemic when you might be spending more on groceries anyway (and especially if your grocery stores sell a decent # of gift cards to OTHER places you tend to spend so you can get 5x on that too)

Rejected why though? There's always a specific reason.

5/24 is most common (5 of any personal card, not just chase) but there's many other possibilities.

Call recon line would be next step.

I have about 25 cards (use only a couple) and never have a problem getting another one even though I'm retired. My FICO is around 810, which is good, but I'm sure many SDers here have me beat by a lot. AFAIK having so many cards hasn't hurt my FICO and may even help it. I have a small fortune in available credit but since I've only used a tiny amount my usage rate is fantastic.

In other words, if you have $20k in available credit and have $10k in credit card debt then that's very bad for your FICO. If you have $200k in available credit and $10k in debt then you're golden. That's my understanding at least.

Well stated, could not have agreed more.

However, many here would not pay the annual fee, hence, the 1.5x does not entice that market sector.

I have been using and gladly paid the CSR fee since day one when Chase rewarded 100k pts/miles. Before this pandemic, I basically travelled for free for many yrs.

Now Chase is doing the extra 50% pay me back, I simply use some of those pts.

Is the $200 bonus a statement credit of $200 or 20,000 UR points? Still worth it if it's the former but UR points would be even better

The 'and' above is important. So in case you have the card you have to cancel before you apply to get this promo.
Assuming that's what it means, what are the chances applying for another after cancellation would work? That would seemingly be one of the first checks.
