Shit, I never bothered to think about hoses having lead. I've been drinking out of hoses in the summer during yardwork my whole life.
I've been drinking from garden hoses since I was a little kid and effect not me none.

Anyone know how this compares to the craftsman premium rubber hose?
I use the craftsman. It seems like that hose will last forever, but it's a bear to transport around the yard. I just use it in a fixed position. If I need to move a hose for use, I would get something like this flexzilla. Or look at the zero-g hoses. I bought one of them recently and I really like how easy it is to move around. I store it on a hose rack outside.

Bought this last year and it got covered in black mold pretty quick, and the flexible nature of it lets it get twisted quite easily when handling it without water flowing.

It's a cool idea but unless you live somewhere without mold I highly recommend avoiding this product.

I never thought about it either, but it seems like garden hoses can have high levels of lead and BPA: https://ideas.time.com/2012/08/02...ose-toxic/.

I have the Craftsman rubber hose and a Flexzilla air hose but I believe the air and water hoses are the same material. The Craftsman hose is incredibly heavy and somewhat difficult to coil but I don't think I'll ever have to replace it. It's been 4 years of it being coiled on the ground as it's too thick and heavy for a reel (100'). Whereas the Flexzilla, I can carry my 50' air hose like it's nothing. It's extremely light weight and coils extremely well. Its not going to be as durable as the Craftsman rubber hose for abrasions from dragging as my air hose has a lot of scuffs from being dragged around my shop.

I believe it's from the fittings. They can claim lead free since they use aluminum fittings instead of brass as brass has trace amounts of lead in it.

Love mine, but prefer the swivel grip one. It hangs on the side of the house. 2 years, no mold.

Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? I think it's likely very location dependant. South Florida here and it got absolutely covered.

When I lived in the Midwest this hose had very little or no mold on it. Now that I'm in the south it's more black than green. Great hose otherwise.

That's why it's drinking water safe, the mold treats the water and gives you diarrhea...

This has been the same price on Amazon for the last month. According to CCC.

It's also never been the $73 mentioned in the original post. Highest price ever is $54 and that was in 2014.

I've had one for over a year (outside the entire time) and no mold yet. Best hose I've ever owned. I do recommend the models with "swivelgrip" though.
