Can you just stop? Really... reliving the glory days of Slickdeals... Looks like I have been around longer than you, I don't get what you're saying.

I have owned many throwaway laptops, and get a nice lenovo thinkpad or dell ($2k retail) from work every 3 years. I know laptops. The macbooks I have at home continue to work well past the cheapo laptops I have had, even the thinkpads. My daughter is still using our 2010 Macbook pro...

10 years of use out of a laptop I paid $700 for. That's value, anyway you slice it. Stop talking like you somehow know more than others, or you are the arbiter of what value is.

Lol why does every Apple sale thread turn into an Apple trashing sh!t storm? I don't even like Apple. I'm a Linux user, and have been for many years. Still, $1099 for the base model 2020 13" MacBook Pro is a pretty decent deal when you consider other factors of the laptop.

Fit and finish:

You're getting a machined aluminum casing with virtually zero flex to it, an unscrewed non-butterfly scissor switch keyboard which is supposed to be very good, well balanced hinges which allow for single handed opening, and plenty of other minor details which are nice.

Tech specs:

Yeah, this laptop may be a little light in specs on paper, but several reviews, such as the ones from Max Tech on YouTube, show that the laptop performs reasonably well in most tasks, including photo editing, and even video editing. Naturally, if you're going to be doing heavy 4K video editing all the time, you'd probably want a spec or model bump. Still, this apparently will edit and export 4K just fine, though a little slower than the $1799 model.

Speakers... No one mentions speakers on a laptop. Again, I don't like Apple, but their laptop speakers make all other laptop speakers sound like trash. It's true, and I don't like saying it.

How about the display on the 2020 base model 13" MacBook Pro? You get a DCI-P3 color accurate screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, and 500 nits of brightness. That's a damn good screen for creative professionals at the sale price of $1099. Sure, I/O sucks on MacBooks, but the two USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 3, which greatly expands the laptop's potential.

You also get a Touchbar. This may be a con for many people, including myself because I use Function keys a lot, but this is still added tech which other laptops don't have. I can see creative professionals customizing shortcuts on this, and making it fairly useful.

This might not be a bad "wait and see" laptop to pick up at the price point if you don't need the extra RAM, and graphics boost of the $1799 model. Could always just sell this one when the ARM transition happens and upgrade if necessary.

Best of luck to anyone who is shopping for tech right now.

I didn't know they were using the 8th gen i5. I wanted an Apple laptop product but my Lenovo is an i5 as well.

Wish they use Ryzen 9 4900HS. Instead of Intel old tech.

Sorry to say apple product:
It is trash in spec per price. One can easily have a better laptop for 1100+. This apple logo is expensive
Look at the specs. It's sickening how outdated it is. This is a 500 dollar laptop in terms of parts.

Costco Item #1453190
Space Gray (MXK32LL/A)
13.3" 2560x1600 IPS Retina Display
Intel i5-8257U 1.4GHz 4-Core Processor
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645
8GB LPDDR3 2133MHz Memory
256GB PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
Backlit Magic Keyboard
802.11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 5.0

8 gb DDR3 memory???? where is ddr4 and 16 gb dual channel.
intel i5 old generation???

this is really worth only 500 dollar laptop sorry apple the logo is too expensive 100% markup.
But you didnt think about : premium metal body build, run smooth and cool all the time, Apple have to pay for their software team to make macOS to run that smooth too. You just mention all the bad side of apple but forgot about their good side

He forgot to add all the free software that comes with it too. Free Mac office. That alone is a couple hundred bucks.

Same here. I like being able to upgrade the ssd and other components on it. Sure, it doesn't benchmark close to the current models, but it just works. Good enough for now.

Since ARM will be coming soon I would say to wait for those models unless you need windows via bootcamp or parallels

Not a slick deal. This laptop should have at least ice lake processor i5 1035g4 which is much better than this.

So would this or the $1599 MBP 13 at best buy be a better value? The $1599 unit has the 10th gen i5, 16gb ram, 512 hd, 4-lightning USB, an extra fan and better speakers.

Also would you buy applecare if you purchased from Costsco with their Citi Visa? You get 4 years of warranty so they say.

I would go with the more MBP. $500 for more spec (and thus more lifetime use)

My Mac air from 2015 is still running perfectly. A bit slow to load Pages or Numbers, but not an all out spinning wheel debacle that non-Apple people would expect.

1k for Sub-latest specs in a device engineered to work as a cohesive unit, AND: the best track pad on the planet? From Costco? I'd consider it. I'm not Apple devout, but you are paying for engineering and not just a bunch of parts thrown into a laptop

Hmm I'm really interested in this laptop. My school is offering it for the same price + free Airpods. What would you guys rather go for? Only reason I'm considering the Costco deal is because of the 90 day return policy and extra 1 year warranty. However my school deal would technically be much cheaper for me as I can sell the AirPods to make some money back.

Good deal, but WHY does Costco have to charge $50 more to order through their website? So stupid. I want to get the Silver version for someone, but they apparently only sell Space Gray in stores. Order online, and I'm basically paying +$50 over the advertised sale price because they don't offer Silver in stores. That would make this $1149 for the Silver version through Costco. For that price, I might as well just do the $100 student discount through Apple directly to get the color I want, and receive "free" AirPods for $1199. I mean, we DO have to pay for a Costco membership to buy their stuff. Come on! Bleh.

Sorry to crap on your thread. For anyone who wants Space Gray, this is a great deal! lol
