The BTOD reviews are from a company that doesn't sell Vari products (only competing brands), so even though they claim to be unbiased you might want to take that with a grain of salt. I ordered a few days ago based on reviews and am not planning to put a 50 lb dumbbell in the center of the desk so hopefully the stability isn't an issue.
They rate Vari as one of the stable ones. I went with their top recommended Uplift V2 commercial frame.

This is nice in that it ships quicker, and I guess I wouldnt have to put any work into making the top, im wondering if the quality of the frame is really that much better than Autonomous. The quality of the desktop is surely less than getting your own real wood, I hear its laminate but decent quality. It's not real "reclaimed wood" or "butcher block" though.
But still if the frame is a lot better than autonomous I could be swayed to go this route.
Bought this one years ago, 40 dollar ikea top, it's been great, no issues, much cheaper
I do see a lot of the cheap table top standing desk things, and I have zero interest in those. They look awful and seem unstable as hell. My office had those as well, tried one for a bit but never asked for one. Just didn't appeal to me even when it was free.
Varidesk is middle of pack for mid-tier standing desks, with moderate front-back wobble. Without the crossbar, it has moderate side to side wobble. Wobble is expected in this range, but severity matters. Tthe upliftdesk also has vertical/horizontal wobble, but I would call it minor/generally unnoticeable while standing, totally unnoticeable while sitting.
Upside for vari is that it's dual motor and warranty is solid.
If having this desk move, OR, if having monitors (especially on mounts) move/bounce bothers you, strongly suggest going with crossbar version at the very least.

- Autonomous.ai SmartDesk DIY Kit Premium (Free Shipping): $389 - $25 off referral code = $364 (no tax to VA)
- Interbuild 6 ft. L x 2 ft. 1.5 in. D x 1 in. T Butcher Block Countertop from Home Depot: $159 + tax
Total = $525 + tax for countertop from HD
Note: Home Office version DYI kit is $70 cheaper. But I chose Premium over Home office version for the following reason.
- Premium's leg is 3 sections compare to Home Office's 2 section, the difference is in the Height range 25.4" - 51" (Premium) vs 28" - 47" (Home Office)
- 7 years warranty for Premium vs Home Office's 5 years warranty
- No issues so far and I'm very happy with my setup.
Pros:
- Still a lot cheaper than buying 72" standing desk with duel motor and 3 sections leg
- 300 lbs lifting capacity
- Solid wood top
- 7 year warranty
Cons:
- The dept of the desk is 25.5 inch compare to regular 30" (I don't have any issue with 25.5" depth so far.
Others considerations:
- Ikea also have solid wood butcher block counter top for about the same price. I chose HD because it is closer to where I live.
- Ikea also have cheaper option such as laminate counter top for $59 if you don't care about the solid wood.
You can find $25 off referral link online if you know how to search for it. DM me for the referral link if you don't feel like searching.
https://www.autonomous.
it cost around 354$ using some regular coupon available in internet code R-WORK20
Should i cancel that order and get vari? Any suggestions?

I guess I'm too cheap. If you don't mind manual height adjustment and 24" depth instead of 30", and only having two color options, Home Depot offers low cost variants. Yes, I know it's labeled a work bench, but I use for a desk.
