A very classic game. This was part 2 of a trilogy by the same company, and individuals on the team, that would, two years later, create Halo, and subsequently be acquired by Microsoft. The trilogy was released as freeware at one point, and the engine was open sourced.

So many memories from the OG trilogy on my old family Mac! It made Halo feel very familiar...
I keep hoping that someone will do a full remake of this title in a modern 3D engine to give me a really compelling reason to punch my way through them again...
2007 game with medicore reviews for $5...i guess its for the fans
First game was the best, by far. The sequel, this game, was out-sourced to another company and crap in almost every way. Filt like fighting inside an alien circus.
Literally, every major aaa fps game was worried about the up coming sequel to Marathon... until it released. Then everyone rightfully bashed the shit out if it.
I think you can get a port of the original for free. Though all the weapon and alien sounds are the crappy sounds from this game due to comparability issues. And some of the effects couldn't survive the porting process.
Did this game age well? I'm intrigued as I am a massive fan of Halo and the og Bungie team, and I still play Halo CE occassionally and it feels like a timeless classic to me, the physics and graphics still hold their own. Does this game have that same energy?
So does this play like Doom-Doom 64 for the folks who have played it and those? I was born in 91 and never played this one. Grew up playing NES-N64 during those days.

I bought the game a few days ago. It definitely has dated retro feel in the same vein as original doom, duke nukem, wolfenstein, etc. a bunch of 2D sprites in a 3D environment. Completely different from modern 3D shooters
My Brother was part of the original Bungie team. I remember going to the Bungie office here in Chicago late night with my brother and friends to play this. I also remember seeing the original beta stuff from Halo. I said that looks stupid and went back to Marathon. At that point though it was just some robot looking soldier running out of a tunnel...Guess I was wrong.

Runs on everything from classic (pre-OSX) Mac OS to Android phones. Sideload to most consoles.
Be aware that there is a backstory from the first game that won't make much sense if you jump in on this one...

Meant to say "off".
