guess it really doesn't. just going to have to get some sort of seasoning on it since it's raw cast iron and will rust. if it does rust, it'll go right under the enamel and knock more off. That's the only reason. But otherweise I suppose it's fine.

Then don't forget that the entire rim is also bare iron and needs similar protection.
