Not seeing that price. Is this local to your home Depot perhaps?

Good looking out OP. I plugged in your ZIP code and was able to get that price and ship it for free. That's a solid $500 plus discount!

Would an electric tankless be more efficient than a old gas tank? Don't want to spend money replumbing the gas line if I can easily run a 240v electric line.

It depends, electric tankless are not as efficient as gas tankless heaters but i do think they last longer. Do you have 80-160 amps of space/capacity in your electric box? For whole home/depending on your location you may need anywhere between 18-36kw size. You may be able to run a yellow flexible gas line instead if replumbing.

Almost certainly not. For purpose of comparison, you water heating will be about 1 million Btu (MMBtu or 1000CF of gas or 10 Therms depending on how you are charged) = 293kWh of electricity. If you check your electric and gas statements, you'll find those numbers. This isn't exact, but it's within 5% or so, accounting for efficiency and variations in conditions.

So 293kWh @ $0.12/kWh = $35.20

MMBtu at $1.20/therm = $12.00 (okay, $13 @ 93% efficiency)

An electric heat-pump water heater with an Energy Factor of 2.5 will produce that MMBtu for (293kWh/2.5EF)=117kWh, or about $14. Personally, I only run mine in std mode in the winter because it's indoors, so in the winter I pay $35, but in the spring/summer/fall I pay $14 *and* I reduce my a/c bill, making the net closer to ~ $8. I still pay more than gas, but last time I checked is was $7k to extend the gas line to my house, and that would never pay back. (note: these numbers don't account for thermal loss of my tank, so it's really ~20% worse, but you get the idea)

Very nice. FYI the Indoor model is showing up for $699 as well if you don't want to install it outdoors.

Does anyone Know if I should get the outdoor or indoor for an attic installation. Having trouble finding anything useful on google.

This is most likely due to the energy efficiency rebates available in Southern California.

https://www.socalgas.com/save-mon...ce-rebates

SoCalGas' site it states that an instant rebate is automatically applied to any purchase from Home Depot or Lowe's

You wouldn't want outdoor in the attic. Outdoor has no vent and just blows the flue gasses straight out in front of the unit --- not something (co2) you want in your attic.

Excellent find! I also used an eBay coupon for an additional 15% off bringing the total to $594.15 plus tax.

Don't do it. The damage that water leaks causes it extensive. But if you must, indoor models because you still will need to vent the unit.

Awesome find using your zip code. Was $1299 in mine. We'll see if it ships.
