If it has free returns after opening and trying then you got nothing to lose. I tried this model with some excellent produced orchestra music. The bass was horrible. It distorted constantly at 40% sound level. I bought directly from JBL, which I sent a request asking about the bass issue. Their only response was an apology that the speaker did not work out for me. So I returned it no cost to me in the end. I researched the second generation but people were saying the newer model didn't have as much bass, but was able to reach a higher volume.

I own 1st and 2rd gens. 2rd gen sound better but not much different.$120 for the xtreme a new speaker is a great deal. I used to buy a refurbished gen1 for 149 back in the day which retail for $299.

Heck of a deal!!! The Extreme is one of the best portable BT speakers out there and can really kick out some tight bass.

Only thing I didn't like was the battery. Died about a year in. Sounds great though.

Keep reading this in other reviews, which are overall super polarized. Super confusing for someone like me already on the fence about pulling the trigger.

Anyone else have battery issues? Also how well does that zipper hold out water, I'm looking at that like 🤔

I personally own the first gen extreme JBL speaker for 3 years now and have not experienced anything bad at all use it for work as well battery still holds up for about 6 to 7 hours depending on volume level of course. I love the sound no distortion even at high volume and I mainly play old school hip hop and new so not sure if the other guy might have got a crappy defective speaker sounds like it to me

Please make sure you're using a good CC to buy this or buy extra warranty because the battery is gonna die in a year...

Battery went down to 4-6 hours. Easy to replace.
Great price.
