Businesses don't charge based on quality, they charge the maximum they can get away with. Quality and price are only loosely correlated.
Exactly. It always puzzles me when people don't get it.

Yeah I don't know about that. I'm 6' 1" and was riding on the highest seat setting for a while. Now I'm on the second highest because it feels a little stiffer that way. Might work if you go highest with the seat all the way back but personally I would go into that thinking there's a 50% chance you'll be hauling it back to Walmart. Though that may be worth it because there is nothing in this price range that can do what this bike does (eg watt output, Bluetooth, etc). It's a total steal for this price.

I was one of the lucky few who got this in April. I used to ride a tour de France spin bike at the gym and the quality of this bike is much better. I actually like it better that it has no screen. Using the app it still allows me to track my progress in freestyle mode. I have a Playlist on YouTube of free spin classes and just pick one and go at it. I use a tablet for the YouTube and my phone with the app open. That way I can adjust the tension in real time since the only way to see it is in the app. This is a high quality bike and uses a magnetic tension not a cheap felt pad. For $500 I paid its a steal.

Is there an option to change pedals to get a clip on one's? Would really prefer that

Great, thanks for quick reply .... also for metrics the phone app will show that right ? And just have youtube or something open on other screen ?

I got peloton 2 weeks ago ... it is good but not 2200$ good and certainly would like to try this instead and return peloton

It will take standard bike pedals. SPD or whatever you use. Pedals and saddle were the first things I changed on it. It does not come with SPDs but I've heard the company will send you some if you ask - ymmv on that tho.

Yes the metrics will show on your phone or whatever in the echelon app under freestyle ride. I use accessibility to zoom in on them too. It shows cadence, watts , and resistance level and some sub metrics (distance calories averages - all bs numbers honestly).

I've run comparisons to peloton in terms of cadence and output and the resistance setting is just less than half of the low range of the peloton setting the instructors call roughly (you get a feel for what you need as you do rides but that's a very good starting point). so when the instructor says 30-45 on peloton, on this you use 14-15 to start.

Yes that was the first mod I did since I love look pedals. I found some replicas on ebay that had the cleats and pedals for $20. I already had road shoes so it's just like my road bike

I have this exact bike and use with the peloton app ($14/mo). You need a device and the echelon app (free) to see your resistance, cadence, and watts. I use an android tablet on the bike and the peloton app on Apple TV. For the price this can't be beat. I love this thing and use it every single day. Super smooth and quiet. Only concern would be if you are taller than 6' 2" I wouldn't buy it as it might be too small. It doesn't work with zwift. If you want that check out the schwinn ic4.
I have a few questions coming from someone who has only used manual spin bikes in the past and not any sort of "smart"

(1) is the Echelon Fit app the only way to control resistance or make the bike function?
(2) if the app is the only way to make adjustments, could echelon push down and update that would make this a paperweight without a paid subscription?
(3) are you required to sign up with a subscription paid in order to use the bike?
(4) is there a manual mode where I could instead just use free YouTube spin classes or watch a video myself as I have an extensive DVD collection of spin classes
(5) basically if someone does not want to pay any sort of ongoing subscription and use a manual mode with this be a good bike?

Peloton rider here for the last 4.5 years. I'll stick with my peloton. It's more than paid for itself at this point and is the only piece of gym equipment I've ever purchased that gets used more today than it did the first week after delivery. Sure you could use peloton digital, but that's missing half of the experience as it doesn't measure and track all of your metrics.

Will this make my wife love me? That's what the Peloton ad promises.

Not criticizing, was just curious to weight benefits... what metrics you thought were helpful or just couldn't live without?
