I marvel at the tiny machine on my wrist, the delicate art of all those gears and levers. The careful packaging and artistic flairs on a well-trodden path.

However I also think this particular watch is kinda dull for the money. No transparent back, no complications, timid styling.

They likely have the disposable income to make this purchase and the fact that they like the watch should be justification enough... if you have to ask, it's probably not for you - I don't mean to sound snobbish or demeaning, watches are more of a hobby than a necessity these days, and you would know by now if you needed/wanted one.

I've spent more than that on a watch... Is it a ripoff, probably. But its an heirloom item you can pass down to your kids... Which then they'll probably pawn it for 45 bucks, and fight over who gets the leftover 5...

So is it worth it? To me, maybe... it'll last my whole life, and I have a strong interest in mechanical watches.

Worth it to everyone? No.

Should it cost what it does? No... Its called a veblen good. Google it.
