Walmart today officially unveiled its new membership service and Amazon Prime rival, which it's calling "Walmart+." The $98 per year service will combine free, unlimited same-day delivery on groceries and thousands of other items, with additional benefits, like fuel discounts and access to a new Scan & Go service, similar to Walmart-owned Sam's Club, that will allow members to check out at Walmart stores without having to wait in line.

The service will be available starting on September 15, 2020 nationwide, reaching over 4,700 Walmart stores, including 2,700 stores that offer delivery. Members can choose to pay the $98 per year after a 15-day free-trial period, or they can pay $12.95 on a month-to-month basis.

Start 15-day free trial - https://www.walmart.com/plus

link is enabled for registration

Mobile Scan and Go FAQ (watch the video) - https://www.walmart.com/plus/mobile-scan-and-go
It seems you can scan items as you shop and while ready to checkout, you would still have to use payment counter using QR code to checkout.

Check availability in your area - https://www.walmart.com/plus/free...d-delivery

Fuel discounts - https://www.walmart.com/plus/fuel-discounts

walmart plus membership plans faq - https://www.walmart.com/plus/faq/...ship-plans

Walmart+ includes unlimited free delivers(for a minimum $35 every order), and can include same-day deliveries and access to early product deals. This is actually a continuation of its Delivery Unlimited service, and subscribers to that service will automatically see their subscriptions converted to Walmart Plus. So far, deliveries and online deals may not be very different between the two services.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I'm seeing a bunch of misunderstandings here, so let me clear up some things that people may be confused about.

(Note that I have absolutely no affiliation with Walmart. I just read web pages.)

Free shipping on non-perishable orders over $35 is something Walmart gives to everyone. You don't need Walmart Plus to get it. You can go to Walmart.com right now and get free shipping on orders over $35.

Most items on Walmart.com have next-day or 2-day shipping with no need for any paid membership. Amazon will ship orders over $25 for free to non-Prime members, but they say it will take 5-8 days to arrive.

Perishable groceries are another matter, of course. Walmart (and Amazon) treats these differently.

Walmart Plus in its current state is largely a slight expansion on Walmart's current program Delivery Unlimited. Delivery Unlimited is the same price and lets people order groceries (including perishables) and have them delivered to their homes possibly as soon as the same day for free as long as the order is over $35. Delivery Unlimited is mainly focused on groceries.

Every member of Delivery Unlimited will automatically be upgraded to Walmart Plus.

As I read the reports, it seems that Walmart Plus will expand to include non-grocery items as well. Perhaps you could buy Airpods and have them delivered for free the same day. (I could be wrong about this.)

Walmart says that they want to offer additional perks as well. The Scan and Go and gas savings are just the beginning, they say. Possible future perks include "branded credit card, early availability on product deals, and potentially access to a popular streaming video service."

I got most of my information on Walmart Plus from Recode. https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/9...comparison

Amazon will also deliver groceries to the homes of Amazon Prime members in selected markets. At this time, Walmart will deliver groceries to more places than Amazon.
Sad that it might still require min $35 for free shipping/delivery...
Unless I am completely reading this wrong it seems like a good deal for slightly rural people that use Walmart's grocery pickup. Pay $100/yr and get it delivered to your house seems like a winner. I don't really see it as a Prime competitor. I buy some groceries on amazon but I can't buy milk, eggs, orange juice, produce, meat, etc there really. Pretty easy to put together a $35+ delivery from Walmart every week for basic grocery stuff.

All that is assuming this lets you get delivery of all the things you can currently use grocery pickup on.

Amazon must be shaking.

That $35 minimum and limited items is gonna be a deal breaker though.

access to a Scan & Go app that allows shoppers to skip the checkout line
I find it funny that Walmart is charging for this service.

this one feature would be game changer.. if it does not get derailed with the shopper theft.. as last time..

The Scan & Go membership perk, meanwhile, lets Walmart+ members pay without having to wait in checkout lines — a nice perk to have amid a pandemic, where time in store means time exposed to potential carriers of the novel coronavirus. Using the Walmart app, customers scan scan items as they shop, then pay for them using Walmart Pay for a touch-free checkout experience.

Walmart two years ago had tested cashierless Scan & Go technology in its stores, but killed the program due to shopper theft. Arguably, fewer people will use Scan & Go because it's a paid service, which could help store staff better combat the earlier problems.

Not sure where the deal is at with this program, free shipping on 160,000 items but how many more hundreds of thousands of items do not qualify.
Free shipping only if order is $35 +
Up to 5% savings on gas at walmart/murphy gas stations
Scan and go app (but you must use walmart pay)

It will fail again and again, until they basically copy prime. They should just do that. Items in stock locally could be delivered 3x a week by store employees to save on 2-day shipping costs.

Yeah, I get the feeling that will either change in the future or the program won't last long because of this.

I'm interested in how it turns out regardless.

Take care,

I think this program competes more with amazon fresh than amazon prime. Free delivery of your groceries more than free delivery of electronics, etc. They know Amazon Fresh is only in limited areas and hopes to use it's larger physical presence to get all the people who want but can't use fresh
