Not a bad deal if you're planning on cooking all of them right away. Comes out to $7.25/lb if they weigh 20lb total. If it weighs 16lbs, its a little over $9/lb.
If your local ShopRite sells lobster, it's on sale for $6.99/lb.

Local grocery store around me sell them for $5.99/lb for upto 1-1/4 lb live lobster. You can buy anywhere between 1-6 lobsters per visit. Tails go for $6.99 each

Good deal if you need a lot of lobster and aren't on the east coast, cheapest I've seen lobster in TX is $15/lb.

I thought it was one lobster that weighed 20 pounds. I was going to put him in a salt water tank and name him Mortimer.

It should be vigorously mentioned that right this minute, USPS and FedEx are NOT guaranteeing overnight delivery. In most every case, once the box leaves the lobster pound, you bear all responsibility for the shipment. So maybe it gets there, maybe it doesn't.

Also, Chix size (1#-1.45#) lobsters aren't really a great value for the money; A 1# lobster contains about 3-4 OZ of meat. Not even a dinner portion, and you have to spend an hour getting that meat out of the shells.

FYI: Lobster this time of year most likely will be soft shell, which has less meat per pound.

Anyone have an idea how long into September this deal will run? It will be better to get this deal a bit later.

EDIT: OK, just saw it is a Labor Day free shipping deal. BUT, when I go through checkout, I see that the available dates show the special proce available until Nov 11 (with Sundays and Mondays blocked out--Saturdays may have an extra $20 fee added).

1lb is a bit small, but 1½lb is a pretty good size all around for meat amount and taste.
Also, you should be getting the meat out in under a minute. For the tail, which a lot of folks fight with: pull the tail off, then pull the fins off the back of it. Straighten the tail out, then use your finger to push the meat from the hole where the fins where...it will slide right out.

So you're gonna get a lot of barely legal "chix" lobsters. These are the cheapos that better restaurants won't even consider and that are hardly worth the work.Too much discard, not enough meat.

Pinchy sounds like a better name.

These are barely legal lobsters so you shouldn't compare them to the bigger live ones being sold at your local grocery stores for higher price. They still taste awesome (the meat will be more tender than bigger, older lobsters) but you're just not going to get a lot of meat out of these.

Pretty decent deal to be honest but nothing to go crazy about. I remember the good old days when I was able to drive down to Maine and get a live lobster for $3.50. Frown

Can these be used for some kind of elaborate lobster-themed prank? No reliable access to saltwater, but I can homebrew a batch if needed. Plenty of salt arount.

TIA.

One thing I'm worried about is if I want delivery (to California) for this Friday, and they are not able to deliver. Will they then deliver Saturday (which on their website they say UPS will not do unless an extra $20 fee is paid). Or do they wait until Monday?

EDIT: Waited too long and it looks like they're sold out for this Friday.

Update: I was able to scheduel an order for Sep 18. Got the UPS tracking info Sep 17 that the lobsters were on their way and they arrived to central California at 9:45am Sep 18.

All 18 lobsters were alive and kicking and in good condition. A quick weigh of two lobsters had a large one at about 1 pound 5 ounces (about 1-1/3 lbs), and a small one around 15 ounces (just under 1 lb.).
