Was about to pull the trigger, AVSforum doesn't recommend Klipsch at all.

I don't see how you can go off reviews, unless they're about quality control problems, but not based on sound quality. I bought ELAC speakers everyone were going nuts about on forums, based on reviews alone. I thought they were going to sound like nothing I ever heard before after reading the reviews... But I absolutely hated how they sounded. I returned them after trying to like them for almost a month.

After that I listened to a lot of speakers, and ended going with a full Klipsch RP series setup. A lot of people said they're too bright, but they sound perfect to my ears. I've been really happy with them. I'm no sound engineer but I am a musician if that means anything or not, I don't know... Maybe the Klipsch are bright, but I thought the ELACs sounded dull and muddy, so maybe my ears like bright speakers. I know this doesn't apply to subwoofers but long story short, I don't go by speaker sound reviews anymore. It's tough to know what will sound good to you compared to a reviewers ears... Reviews are good for build quality but to me thats about it... So I guess it depends on what they said in the reviews.

I say go listen to as many speakers as you can till you find some that sound good to you.

How does this compare to the R-12SW at Costco for $189? Would non-audiophile person notice the sound difference?

From the specs this model is quite a bit larger and heavier than the R-12SW, also more power too.

I've tried both and the r112sw was noticeably louder and sounded better to me. But whether its worth almost double the price is questionable. Depends on a lot of things... your finances and what you would like to spend, how big of a room you're using it in, whether you currently have a sub or not, etc.

If you don't have a sub now, the cheaper one would make a huge difference... The r112sw is a noticeable upgrade, but you would have to decide if its worth it to you.

Can anybody recommend a decent receiver to go with this?

Yamaha receivers are good.

I currently have both at my house. No comparison the r-112sw is hands down the better sub. In fact I bought the Costco sub in the last 90 or so days and I'm going to take it back and buy this one I believe. With that said however, the 112-sw sub is currently not working and I have been waiting for a replacement amp from Klipsch for over two months. Klipsch gave me a hard time saying that because I bought it used off of Amazon that the warranty was only 60 days. I have an entire house with Klipsch stuff. the amp failures on the r-112 and r-115 (which I also have) are known and widespread across multiple forums. I can't say it's worth taking the risk at some point if you are leery about amp failure. But there is a third party company in Michigan that can refurbish the amp if it fails for around $150

Speaking of receivers, why have deals dried up?

Pulled the trigger. Should be a nice upgrade from my r12 or whatever it is. I'll paint it black to match.

Side note to those relying only on forums for advice:
Have you ever gone onto a forum relating to something YOU are an expert on, only to roll your eyes at the massive amounts of praised and repeated misinformation? Because me too. That's why I highly suggest using your own judgment and listening to experts

I think I know the answer to this, but I have a Dayton Audio sub-1200, only 120 watts. Never been happy with it for movies. I have it cranked all the way up and can barely tell its even on. I assume this 600w one would blow it away, right? However my pioneer VSX-1131 receiver only supplies 160w per channel, so I assume this sub would do me no good until I upgrade my receiver? Any way to wire up a dedicated amp just for the sub to my receiver? (sorry, wrong place for that last question, you can ignore it.)

Try feeding both rca inputs on the Dayton(a rca splitter) also increase sub out level in your receiver to 0db

That should get the Dayton going

I have this sub and I've gotta say it sounds awesome. It's hooked up to an Onkyo TX-NR676 receiver which is nothing special but the sub really hits without distortion in my basement.

Interesting, didn't know that was a thing or what it would do. Pretty sure I've increased the sub out level to 0db already, but I'll double check that.

Also, I realized I'm dumb, this Klipsch has a built in amp, so it would work fine with my receiver. I will try what you said with an rca splitter and see what kind of difference it makes.

So just to be clear, I believe you are saying you are using the amplifier on your receiver for the subwoofer. Most subwoofers come with an internal amp or use a separate amp because it takes a lot of power to drive it. You will want to use the sub preamp out on your receiver and connect that to the line in on your amplifier on the sub. The power your receiver is rated at shouldn't matter because you are using the dedicated amp for the subwoofer. Hope that helps

Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 15 to 20 percent of people. Tinnitus isn't a condition itself — it's a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury .

Also play with the volume knob on Dayton. I have mine at 12' o clock
If nothing works then you may have a null at your listening spot and you will need to do sub-crawl to relocate it

No sorry, I was dumb, forgot that both my sub and this Klipsch both have built in amps. So I am using the amp in my sub.
