This does use, like the C535, the little pre-filter screen in front of the carbon filter which helps keep it from getting impregnated prematurely with buildup. I typically vacuum off the carbon filter every other week and replace it every other month to keep the very limited odor reducing capabilities maintained.
All in all the unit itself is pretty nice. It's refined in operation and layout compared to the older 53/6300 models. I have no intention of ever using the gimmicky, unnecessary wifi capabilities. Just leave it at speed two or three and forget about it.
This is NOT a good buy! The long term cost of ownership is higher than other similarly sized/square foot rated air cleaners even from Winix. There is no sense whatsoever (in my opinion) to pay a premium for a useless feature like wifi connectivity. So yes in summary my main complaint is that this uses a smaller, pricier filter that has not (yet) been made available by third parties. Who knows whether the filter I know and love will stay at the price I'm used to forever, even... maybe this will be the new standard size filter (28% smaller). As of this time, this is the only model device to use this special size filter. AVOID. Try to find a c535, 5300 or a 6300 used/refurb'd instead. The x300 series aren't as pretty and modern looking, but they work very well at removing crud from the air. "

I find filters at Costco. Have 2 of these and can't believe what is in the filters when I clean them. Works well and super quiet. Best allergy season since I purchased 2 of these.
How much are the filters at Costco?
The come in and out of stock all the time. Last I paid was $39.99. I have 2 boxes in reserve. That was for the filter and 4 carbon filters.

Hmmm... Wifi purifier, eh? Sounds like something that'd keep my kid from late night PronHub sessions - might be in for one now...

Never used one of these. Can the larger filter be cut down to fit the frame of the smaller filter and just exchange the guts of the filter?
