The compact, 1-handed design provides superior control and the ability to make cuts in tight spaces. The dual gear counter balance mechanism provides the lowest in-cut vibration of any reciprocating saw, resulting in faster cut-starts in metal and reduced user fatigue. -slickdewmaster

Very good deal on the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Hackzall (2719-20). This tool is regularly priced @ $159 so you're essentially getting the battery for free (which is a $70 value). I believe this is a web only price so you won't be able to do the "turn in" trick at a HD B&M store to get the tool cheaper.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa...cale=en-US

Can also get this same deal @ Acme Tools:
https://www.acmetools.com/shop/to...cating-saw (final price is $3 cheaper since there's no tax but you do pay for shipping; currently OOS but you can still order)

If you want it cheaper and don't want the battery you can save some money by getting it at Amazon (though Amazon is not an authorized dealer so you won't get a 5 year warranty, you'll only get a 3 year warranty):

Tool specs:
  • POWERSTATE Brushless Motor: Increased cutting speed and power throught the toughtest applications
  • REDLINK Plus Intelligence: The most advanced system of cordless power tool electronics; provides optimized performance and overload protection using total sysem communication between tool, battery and charger
  • REDLITHIUM battery technology: Superior pack construction, electronics and performance deliver more work per charge and more work over pack life than any battery on the market
  • 1-Handed design provides superior control and versatitily over standard reciprocating saws
  • 7/8 in. stroke length removes more material with each stroke resulting in the faster cuts
  • Pivoting shoe provides constant contact with the work-piece resulting in smoother cuts with less bucking and vibration
  • REDLINK PLUS intelligence and POWERSTATE Brushless Motor combine to provide up to 3x longer tool life than competitive one-handed recips

This tool gets good reviews across the internet and compares very well to other leading hackzall tools.

Pair this with the new AX carbide pruning clean wood sawzall blade [milwaukeetool.com] (48-00-5231 (6"), 48-00-5232 (9"), 48-00-5233 (12")) to do your end of the year pruning around the yard.

The sawzall is for cutting/demo larger/thicker materials. The hackzall is one handed, much lighter and can be used for finer cutting duties. Due to its compact size and weight it can be used safely for over head cutting and pruning. The hackzall can also be used with all the same blades as the sawzall. One of the biggest criticisms of the M18 super sawzall is its huge size and weight.
Yeah, this exactly! I have one of the big ones and it is the beast it was built to be (mine is not that new; I think it was the top beast of the old beasts of a few years ago). It is very serious. No doubt it's a great tool. But for lots of things a smaller one-hand saw is what you really want. Certainly in small spaces, and also just to save your arms and wrists if you don't need that massive a tool.

In fact I'd jump DOWN and recommend the M12 FUEL model of this same saw, if you already have a lot of M12 stuff as I do (including the larger 3-6AH battery). There is also an older non-Fuel version of it. The tinier ones are truly amazing for the size and weight. This M18 one is a step up, of course, and this one comes with the promo battery. (sometimes there are promo batteries with the M12 line also, but not sure of any deals at the moment.)

P.S. Also great for cutting smaller branches on trees and shrubs.

I honestly don't see the point of this tool when the sawzall exists

I also have the M12 hackzall (non-fuel version). It does suffer from power not to mention it uses smaller M12 batteries. The M18 fuel hackzall is basically the same form factor (same size and weight) as the M12, but it's motor is brushless and it has a longer blade stroke so its more powerful and more battery efficient. For this reason if I had to pick between the two, I'd go for the M18 fuel hackzall vs. the M12 fuel as you get more power in basically the same form factor.

This big time. I decided to get the M18 fuel hackzall after looking at the product videos for the new M12 Brushless Cordless 6 in. HATCHET Pruning Saw that came out this month.

My M12 non-fuel hackzall wasn't cutting it when I needed to prune larger diameter branches (I have many fruit trees on my property) so I was interested in this new Milwaukee product. After watching and reading all the reviews, the hatchet tool seems like a pretty cool tool, but its niche and really only built for pruning branches. The M18 fuel hackzall on the other hand (which can do pruning very effectively) has much more versitility vs. the hatchet so I decided to go in that direction.

I have the M18 non fuel version and it fits perfectly between the M12 and the M18 fuel versions... I got the M12 for my 90 year old father and he loves it for small jobs... I bought the M18 fuel last week when it was 139 with the 5.0 amp battery deal at HD, but after holding it, it just is too big and heavy and I don't think I could get it into as tight a space as my m18 non fuel...

So this is one time where I think for me, more power is a bad thing and I will be returning the M18 fuel one..

But to each his own...

Agree, got this because I needed a driver as well. I feel it was a good deal...

Not that this helps, but this same deal was $139 last week.

Yeah somehow got on the Milwaukee contractor mailing lists* and so I got their announcement of the Hatchet, which sounds great until I looked at the price. Might get one someday as I'm sure there will be deals. I can see how that might be a really ideal tool for certain garden tasks. (always ask yourself, how much would I have to pay someone else to do this work, vs doing it myself with a really cool tool?)

*One benefit of getting on the Milwaukee contractor email list is out of the blue, they sent me a nice red Milwaukee T-Shirt. Sorry, can't tell you how to sign up or when that happens, but it was a nice surprise. I'm pretty sure I spend enough on their stuff to justify it.
