I very recently bought this exact router and had to return it after spending 4 hours to finally diagnose a fault in the router itself. Also, the TP-Link phone tech support was "down" for days straight. And don't even bother with their online chat (bot). I had high hopes for this unit (I have two TP-Link wifi USB adapters on other computers that have worked well), but it turned out to be a POS for me (including the company's extreme lack of support).

Why is this $50 more than AX1500 [amazon.com] before the $30 discount? It seems the only difference is 274Mbps less on the 2.4GHz band which only older devices would need. Despite no discount, wouldn't it be a better deal to get AX1500 for $79.99 instead?

Do you have devices that can benefit from an ax router?

Yeah but for most of us, AC is good enough to deliver the speed they need while ensure a good coverage entire house, at least in my case. There is no point to have the latest wifi technology that give you 1 bar signal ASA you step out to the back yard
You must also believe 5G is worthless since 4G has more coverage, huh?

Just my 1. Mainly wondering about range.

I can't tell if you're arguing for or against 5G, and therefore WiFi 6 based on your comparison. But your comparison is apt, as there's a broad consensus that mm wave 5G is indeed worthless for those very reasons (spotty coverage and limited range)

I got the linksys velop AC2400 2 packs off from ebay. They run about 60-65 before tax brand new with free shipping
linksys router has zero support, I would stay away forever.

The amount of cores, tri vs quad. They claim better performance but that's up to the individual user I guess. Also the theoretical maximum speed, 1500 vs 1800.

Thanks - didn't see the tri vs quad.

Going by the TP-Link specs [tp-link.com], the AX1800 has:

Quote :
High-Power FEM
Improves transmission power to strengthen signal coverage
which the AX1500 does not have.
