The only downside to the Blendtec is the noise. It ranges between 95-105 db.
I ended up ordering the Vitamix E310.(Certified Reconditioned available for $289). It does everything that the Blendtec does with a lower noise profile. Ranges between 84 - 104 db.
By the way, decibel scale is logarithmic. In other words, 95 db is twice as loud as 85 db. 105 db is 4 times as loud as 85 db. Even with the Vitamix, I tend to not run it at the highest speeds. Speeds 1-6 are okay.

Well, I'm not sure that's odd. Specially when you throw 2 frozen bananas and frozen berries with no extra liquid.
Had one of these and they are fantastic.
BUT, if you are going to just make protein shakes, get a Ninja or other brand, single serve cup blender.
Washing this thing was too much vice a single 16 ounce cup and small blade 3 times a day.
Enjoy
My dog never makes a sound, except when the Blentec is on. It is so loud that the starts howling.
Yeah, their support is pretty bad. The guy at Costco told me the same thing. He said folks are just returning them because getting them replaced by Blendtec was a pain.

Maybe a vitamix 5200 is a little better overall but its also twice the price
You cannot compare a unit ....the 5200 to the Blendtec. Its 200 dollars and you will need to get a replacement container due to bearing issues after extended use. The blade is fixed into the unit unlike vitamix.
The question you should ask is that if both units were the same price which one would you buy,
for me I got the 5200 for 225 bucks at target new..less 5%...212.50. 50 percent clearance.
So that was easy choice. Would I pay 450 for a new one...no way. would I get a blendtec for the same price of vitamix...no way.
but the blendtec is cheap...I mean 200 is a great deal. There are dozens of reviews between the two. The vitamix does make better smoothies due due to the blade design.
There are many blades you can change with vitamix such as a dry blade. But 200 bucks...if not for the target clearance...I probably have a blendtec.
