"Will it blend? That is the question."

I saw the blendtec at my cousin's place and got impressed. Especially the ease with which it handled batters and nut butters. The usual $50-$100 blenders can handle all the liquidy stuff but they give up when it comes to nuts, lentils and grains.
The only downside to the Blendtec is the noise. It ranges between 95-105 db.
I ended up ordering the Vitamix E310.(Certified Reconditioned available for $289). It does everything that the Blendtec does with a lower noise profile. Ranges between 84 - 104 db.

By the way, decibel scale is logarithmic. In other words, 95 db is twice as loud as 85 db. 105 db is 4 times as loud as 85 db. Even with the Vitamix, I tend to not run it at the highest speeds. Speeds 1-6 are okay.

That's wrong. Decibel scales doubles every 3db. Every 10db is ten times louder.
Well, theoretically yes. In terms of intensity, 10 Decibels is ten times louder. But human ear perceives intensity in a different way, making 10 decibels twice as louder approximately. Please see this article for more info:

Also, going by that measure, the peak intensity of the Vitamix - 105 Decibels should be 128 times more louder than its lowest speed (85 decibels). But practically, it's not. It feels like it's 4 times louder.

Pretty sure you'll get the same lid again. I got it and mine came with the little clear plastic piece in the middle and not the big one shown in the picture. I didn't have any warranty info in the box. I may email them to confirm it has an 8 year warranty.
I would be interested to know about the warranty information. It is strange they come with a brown box.

They got back to me that it is in fact an 8 year warranty. Which basically covers anything it seems to the container and base and includes shipping both ways. So even though this is pretty much the regular price now I'm very pleased. Performance has been great too.
