For example, if you met the minimum spend for the sign up bonus in the first month the card was opened, the statement closing date was probably October or November 2016. If you met the minimum spend in the 3rd month that the card was opened, then the bonus may have been awarded in January or even February - again, depends on the statement closing date. You can check your first few statements in that account to know for sure.

I've had a United Explorer MileagePlus card for almost 10 years. It was handy when we lived near Chicago, but we rarely fly United anymore and really don't get the maximum use of the luggage and lounge perks. Now that United Miles don't expire, I feel it's time to move on. I'm hoping to make the swap before my United annual fee hits in October.
Waiting for a decision now

Yes, I read someone mentioned in this thread. It takes couple of days to reflect a new offer for referrals.
2. I haven't done it myself, but going off of the reports of others who have done so, it is possible to redeem United miles towards the annual fee of the Club card (not Air France (?) miles). At 1.5cpp, or $150 per 10k miles, you are left with 70k mile bonus and a $100 fee, or ~ 63k miles, $0 fee + the 5k miles from spending. The issue with that strategy is that you either need the bonus to hit on your 1st statement in order to have the miles to redeem, or otherwise have a sufficient number of United miles already, using the later arriving bonus to replenish that stockpile.
2. Wow. So if I have 65K miles in my United account, I can use 35,000 miles towards the $525 fee (on a 1: 1.5 ration, can you confirm the ratio), and get a further 100K miles, making a total of 130,000 miles (100K new + 35K remaining on old) meaning a net incremental over my initial 65K miles............ for a net INCREMENTAL of 65K miles (65K- 35K) + 100K - 65K. So bottomline, I end up with an extra 65K miles at no cost. Correct? If yes, how great if that for exhausting a once in a lifetime card bonus benefit?
Your math checks out. Keep in mind that Chase doesn't have a 'once per lifetime' bonus rule like Amex; you can get each of the United bonuses again every 24 months. Also the United club card is a Visa Infinite - and I have heard that Chase has set a minimum $15k credit limit for opening that particular card, so make sure your credit report and limits with Chase are OK for that.

If you had to select 1 of the 2 below, what would you choose assuming someone (not me) had $7K annual credit card spend, and Tier 2 status at B of A.:
1) Chase Sapphire Preferred with 80,000 points ($95 annual fee)
2) Bank of America Premium Rewards with 50,000 points ($95 fee) but would give you Tier 2 status.
Sapphire preferred card
Hit on apply and approved for $19k CL
