It's 4 years since receiving the sign up bonus.
You have to wait 4 years since opening the first one before you can get another.
The application date or the card open date doesn't matter. What matters is the date that you received the sign-up bonus. That date is probably the closing date of the statement in which it was awarded to you.

For example, if you met the minimum spend for the sign up bonus in the first month the card was opened, the statement closing date was probably October or November 2016. If you met the minimum spend in the 3rd month that the card was opened, then the bonus may have been awarded in January or even February - again, depends on the statement closing date. You can check your first few statements in that account to know for sure.

For those who have already participated or had a Chase Sapphire, it's important to read the requirements. Does anyone know how do you check to see if you qualify for this or not?

"This product is available to you if you do not have any Sapphire card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for any Sapphire card in the past 48 months."

So easy to check. See when you got your last bonus points for this card. If it has been less than 48 months you do not qualify. So in my case I got my 80K points October 26, so next time Incan participate again is October 26, 2024. If you didn't keep records of when you got them look on your past statements.

I keep nothing after I cancelled the credit card. So, I have no record. I emailed chase to see if they can check for me.

I'm still struggling to find out when I got the bonus on my CSR. I called them and they say that the account no longer shows in their system and it was probably purged. I still have the actual card so I know the account number. I'm trying to decide if it will be safe to apply for the preferred card now. I know it has been over 4 years since I got the card. If they no longer have record of the account, how could they know the date of my last bonus?

I think I have another year before I can get another Sapphire card, right (re: the 100K Reserve bonus)? That was 2017 or 2016?
I also opened Chase Reserve and confirmed it was 2016 for me. I got the point on October 2016 so I should be qualify for this promotion.

Your December 2016 statement should have a date on it. That is the date that you need for this purpose.

Will buying Visa cards from Staples or Publix be okay to reach $4000 spend?

Yup. They don't really care how you spend the $4000.

Why the conflicting answers on this?

Whatever you spend on the card goes towards it. I don't know why others are saying no. I got the bonus when I first applied 5 years ago and bought gift cards with it.
