I just removed all of my antivirus software from my machines after reading tons of articles about how unnecessary they are now. Obviously, if you're torrenting or visiting some questions sites or opening mysterious emails, you might need more protection beyond what is built into W10. I am overly cautious with my Internet usage, so it depends on your browsing habits.
I guess you are talking about Office 365 which is different.
Regarding offline download... even most DVD purchases just have the initiator/key and you have to download via internet.
I switched from paying for Dropbox to Office 365 only for the cloud storage because (at the time), it was $9.99/1TB on Dropbox and Office 365 was $9.99/1TB/user with 5 users (through OneDrive. The bonus for me was that I got Office 365 along with it and if you're patient, I was able to get deals during BF for Office 365 to extend my subscription.
I've since moved everything over to a NAS but I've kept the Office 365 subscription for the Office apps, but also as a backup to my NAS, but OneDrive is also basically the primary dumping spot for pictures I take (and my family) takes on our phones.
At the time, it seemed like a no-brainer since I was already paying for cloud storage, I might as well get a little something additional if I was going to continue paying for cloud storage.
That's true! Since they make so much money, they might stop these lifetime licenses very soon or limit it's support just to few years.
Free and works. Even Googles cloud based on works just as fine.
what is good alternative? serious questions

Same here, i loaded up on everything even visio, but the last time i looked the HUP had switched to 365 for $70, no thanks.
Or does it get associated with the Windows PC, meaning if you ever in the future upgrade your PC, you'll have to purchase another copy?
They sell enterprise keys and they have a 50/50 shot of getting flagged for fraud. I bought both TurboTax a d Office this way. Both of them were apparently fraudulent.
When it is so old, that the computers stop supporting it, if you have a key for office 2003, you can still use it when though it doesn't look as good

Windows 7 had Windows Defender, didn't it? You may have needed to manually download it though, I can't remember
Windows 7 had MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) built-in I think. Wasn't very well regarded if I remember correctly.
