Generally liquid drugs and vitamins are fast acting vs slow release. That's my guess.
Studies suggest that lower doses of melatonin are more beneficial.

(1) absorbs quicker sublingually (but probably the most minor of my points)
(2) because usually liquid drops are 1mg for the dropper, which allows you to more precisely (vs cutting a 1mg pill into thirds or even smaller portions with larger dosages) measure out the optimal 300mcg
less is more.
I do remember having a sever vitamin D deficiency like 7 years ago. The doctor prescribed a 50k IU, but once a week for couple months only. Those are very high and should not be taken without a doctor guidance.
Back to my story, two months on that high dosage and normal OTC daily after that put me back in business. No issues since then
